I have a new 2010 S 150 that I picked up yesterday from a BMW dealer that no longer handles Vespa scooters or accessories.

I also have a new but damaged Piaggio top box that, according to the dealer, came off of a GT. It is a nice size and shape and has a very good back rest.

I think that this top box may attach to a Piaggio S 150 rack, but I don't know.

The box looks like it slides into place and is secured with a pin in the center of the bottom of the top box.

The pin is missing.

The box is scratched, but it needs to be painted anyway to match the bike.

Unfortunately one of the red reflector lenses is scratched and should be replaced.

So. My questions:

What rack should I purchase and where?

Are the mounting pin and lens available?

Do I need to add handlebar weights to compensate for the top box?

Where can I find 938/A Taormina Orange paint?

Is this a viable project, or should I look into a Givi rack and top box and forget about trying to make the damaged one work?

Thanks

We've got most of what you need. Definitely the reflectors and orange paint. Do you have any rack at all on your LX currently? We've not tried to put the larger GT/GTS racks on an LX before, but we do have hardware kits for the GT/GTS top cases. I can take a look on Monday and see if it will work. Give a call on Monday if you like.

Max,

Thanks for the reply. I do not have a rack of any kind on the scooter right now.

Shoot a PM at SharpColorado. He slapped a GTV case on his wife's LXV. He can tell you exactly how to do it. I'd try finding the thread with pics, but it's a chore on a phone right now.

I'm on the case.

You need to mount an LX/LXV 150 rack on that S 150. A very slight modification to one side of the clamshell top case mounting bracket makes it fit. That is because the clamshell bracket is made for the wider rack on the GTS/GTV.

1. Install LX/LXV 150 rack on your S 150. I cannot guarantee it fits on your scoot.

2. Place the clamshell GTS/GTV top case bracket (black plastic) over the rack, in its "down" position. After you do that, you will notice that the rack tube steel curves too sharply for the bracket to completely fit. While holding the clamshell over the position it needs to go, use a pencil to draw the cutaway shape on the plastic.

3. With a serrated knife (such as a common steak knife), saw away the excess plastic to match the curvature of the S 150 rack. Steel shears may be used also. Be patient, and chew away small bits at a time. Repeat process of holding the clamshell half over the rack often, to check your progress. Shape both sides the same way.

4. Once you have the clamshell bolted together (which holds the rack down), you are in the final stretch. Install the screw clips into the three positions on the clamshell, which will be for the bolts. Thread bolts through the clamshell from the top without the case first, to make sure they will go. Remove the bolts.

5. Note the corresponding holes in the plastic top case. If the holes have not been drilled out, drill (or with the point of your knife) make the holes. Drop/screw the bolts through the top case holes (I recommend washers just under the bolt heads also).

6. Place the top case on the rack, fishing the bolts into their respective holes, and into the nuts on the bottom. The top case must feel firm, so wiggle the case down firm to make it through the bolt holes. When you are done, there should be no "play" in the case.

We do sell that black plastic bracket plus a number of racks. If you like, give a call or email on Monday and we can get you all squared away. I can see which rack would work with the GTS bracket.

Update

Thanks to all who responded.

Max was able to provide the rack, new reflectors and the locking pin assembly.

I installed the Vespa topcase support #657083.

The GT200 topcase fits perfectly with no modifications and looks real good on the bike.

I rode the scooter over to National Coatings & Supplies and had them scan the paint.

Taormina Orange (Arancio 938/A) is Formula #810574.

One pint of Dupont Chroma Base paint set me back $118.31 plus tax

The topcase is disassembled and the painter picked it up this afternoon.

The backrest is very nice and almost matches the seat cover. If only it had orange stitching.

I ordered the Vespa fly screen and can't wait to get the topcase back and installed.
