I made one from paper a few years ago, for our xmas card.

I love it! You are super talented.

We were at a friends 80th birthday bash a couple of weeks ago and the club we were in had lots of 'themed' murals on the walls.

This was was on a 'European' area.

Love that one, Rae!

My last one isn't a scooter but I wanted to share. I think my best painting yet.

Lots of great posts lately. Keep them coming... love this, took me a while to spot the third cat! wow, great study of light and reflection. I see what you're doing here. This is preparation for a masterwork - a painting of a gleaming bright scooter, right?

Who doesn't love colouring in?

It's a nice change of task after the intricate work on the control points. I'm painting underneath the black line art here, quickly brushing in the colour with the Wacom pen.

Adding some tone definition. I'm using the Wacom pen to block in the colour, then the mouse to finish the edges of the lines.

Ironfoot, at this stage are you still in Illustrator, or have you moved to Photoshop? I've never used a brush to fill in colour in Illustrator. I still use the pen tool with a fill.

Thanks. We are almost there I think. Just going to add some highlights and a few final details. Still in Illustrator.

Usually I might have filled the colour like you say, make a closed shape with the pen tool, then apply a colour fill to that shape. But after doing so much mouse-work on the beziers earlier, I just fancied the quickness of the Wacom pen for a while. So I used the Wacom with a thick brush stroke, and sort of 'daubed in' the colour. Kind of like filling in with a thick marker pen.

The basic brush in Illustrator makes a single (open) vector line, with a variable stroke weight applied. Pretty much the same as the pen or pencil.

There are lots of different ways, of course, to fill in with a solid colour, that would achieve the same end result.

The colouring job could be done in Photoshop. But I want to retain the scalability, and have the final piece entirely made of vectors.

I like where you're going with this, but I have to say - there's something about the sketch version that I like a lot.

I've added some highlights and a few final details:
- 'Vespa Super' badge on the legshield
- a little mark to define the Piaggio emblem on the top of the horncast
- mudguard crest (which had somehow escaped till now)
- tyre tread

All done for now. I can put the drawing, as it stands, on a t-shirt at redbubble.

I'd quite like to take it further, incorporate it into an emblem or a larger illustration. Maybe add some lettering or a slogan, perhaps something that harks back to those old print advertisements.

I've been wondering about having my work made into enamel metal signs. Metal plaques, advertisements like the kind you used to get at fuel stations. I'd love to see this scooter in high gloss enamels or bright durable inks, all rendered onto a metal plate. Something to hang in the shed or garage. What do you think?

Awesome work! I just bought the GTS t-shirt myself! Will wear it proudly while riding/working on my GTS!

Would definitely want a tee just with the bike as-is: digging the minimalist concept of that, nothing too busy. Doesn't mean it has to be the only option, of course. (You've probably pre-sold a dozen of 'em right here, yes?)

Perhaps because this all started from the poster, I can't look at the ready T-shirt without seeing some background attached. Old cafe, beach...whatever, somehow the scoot sets my imagination flying.
