![]() I'm finishing up a new piece today. There was no sketching in the process this time. This evolved purely as a graphic design.
I'd been thinking about how the Vespa might be incorporated into a two-way invertible image - something that followed the principles of yin yang symbols and playing cards - using the legshield contours as the main dividing line. ![]() It took time to work through the possibilities presented by flipping the image upside-down. What to include, what to discard, how best to join and balance the two halves. Once I was satisfied with the arrangement I was able to apply this line-art style of illustration. I've been looking at old etchings and woodcuts. Lots of things have fed into this. ![]() Hope you like it ![]() post edited to fix image links Last edited by Ironfoot on Wed Jul 12, 2017 6:25 am; edited 2 times in total

![]() I don't seem to have a bit of artist blood in me. I can barely draw a stick figure. But my daughter-in-law, Eden, loves to draw in pencil. She has always drawn horses and cowboys/cowgirls because those are things she loves. About a month ago I asked her if she could make a drawing of my 1949 Harley-Davidson chopper. She was really unsure of her ability to draw something like a motorcycle because of all the shiny bits and lots of detail. But I think she nailed it. The photo doesn't do this drawing justice. When you look at the actual drawing you can see the threads on some of the bolts. Her talent amazes me. So proud of this young lady!

![]() Long time, yes...
...but clearly worth it, to judge from this piece. Your batting average is more than admirable.

![]() Great design for a back of playing cards. If you go forth I'm in for a couple of packs. Just saw Shutterfly will make a deck of cards. 20% off cyber Monday. But to late for that.

![]() So I've done a bit of Etch A Sketching since my last post. No scooters yet, but I've got plans. I'll also start exhibiting publicly here in Vegas pretty soon. For anyone interested, here's where you can see my work:

![]() Man. Insanely intricate work with just those dials. I can't quite comprehend how it can even be done. Thanks for sharing. Some great stuff on your website, I especially liked 'Swaying Palms at Dusk'. Looking forward to seeing an Etch A Sketch scooter when you get along to it. |

![]() Here's a snapshot of a new work-in-progress, based loosely on an old Vespa 50 Special. The scooter drawing is pretty much completed. Next I'm planning to incorporate it into an emblem somehow. Maybe set it into a roundel or banner.

![]() Vespa Motorscooter - In Tutto Il Mondo
The slogan means 'Throughout the World' or 'Worldwide'. I spent a fair amount of time illustrating the themed background, probably as much as I did on the scooter. Once the linework was finished I made a couple of colour variations. Pretty happy with it all now. I'm making it available along with my other t-shirt designs on redbubble: http://www.redbubble.com/people/doublegood Always interested to hear what you guys think. ![]() Good gracious, Ironfoot, the "Vespa Motorscooter - In Tutto Il Mondo" is amazing! What beautiful work.
I also think it would make a great print to be framed....hint, hint. |
![]() Thanks Strick, that's nice to hear!
Generally I've not seen so much interest in prints compared shirts, but I can certainly add them to the available options at redbubble. |

![]() Hi,
I was invited by Ironfoot, to post some of my art here... I do all kinds of different art styles and techniques, including drawing, spray paint, Screenprinting, painting, welding, and sculpture. Here are some things that I have made, that were achieved by doing a pencil drawing, and or creating illustrations in illustrator or photoshop... Thanks! october ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
![]() These are really great to see, october. Thanks for posting!
I think we share a lot of common ground, in our methods of working and interests in graphic styles and reproduction. I especially like the blue scooter illustration with the RVENGE plate. Lovely loose line work. Really nice. |

![]() Killer work, October! It's great to see the Vespa being represented so well artistically. That's some really good composition, design and overall execution.
On another note, I finally decided how I'm going to do my first scooter-based Etch A Sketch. It will be my baby girl (LXV150) on a "world's smallest EAS". I'm hoping to include it in my (hopefully!) upcoming gallery exhibition in Vegas. It won't be my only scooter based work- I'll be at High Rollers again this year looking for inspiration. |
