![]() ^^^ Wow, that comic art is excellent. Proper job.

I have been practicing with it. I need to try Mischief again, I have been using Illustrator, which is pretty frustrating as well. My Wacom set works well for pencil sketching in Mischief, the pressure sensitivity is good and it registers the marks instantly. But for some reason the performance is a bit laggy in Photoshop and it doesn't register the pressure. Maybe I've got the settings wrong, I'm sure I used to have it working better. I like using the Wacom pen from time to time, but most of my stuff is made using the mouse and keyboard. Mouse for plotting points and lines, keyboard for tool selection and shortcuts. |
![]() Lately I've been studying old print advertisements and commercial art. I love the artwork found in the small-ads of old newspapers and magazines. Blown out ink and rough paper. Some of the early Vespa owner's manuals have nice line art illustrations too.
This week I went back to one of my old GTS drawings and remade it in single colour line art: ![]() I already had the main scooter outlines created for an older project, so that was half the job done. Then it was a case of knuckling down on the hatching and contours. Here's a close up detail shot: ![]() post edited to fix image links Last edited by Ironfoot on Wed Jul 12, 2017 6:35 am; edited 1 time in total

![]() That hatch work is excellent!
I too enjoy old printing and advertising... You do a great job capturing that feel... |
![]() Thanks october - I hope your graphics projects are going well.
I did more work on the GTS picture since I last posted it here. Tweaked some of the hatching a little bit, and then set the scooter in a new wing design. All made in Illustrator again, with a bit of Photoshop to produce the final images. ![]() It's available on t-shirts from RedBubble along with my other designs: https://www.redbubble.com/people/doublegood/works/25566320-doublegood-vespa-gts post edited to fix image links Last edited by Ironfoot on Wed Jul 12, 2017 6:36 am; edited 1 time in total

![]() Top job, October. Nice colour scheme too. Show us a photo of the screen prints when they're ready. Looks like three spot colours, plus white background?
It's great that you take care of the whole process, from the initial layouts right through to the final print. I'm so envious of your printing press. ![]() |

![]() Thanks...
I will update as I start the printing process... I have built a vacuum platen myself, to print on flat stock. We'll see if it works... I will most likely use this design, minus the text, for t shirts also. I plan on printing those myself as well, if time allows... It's the 5th year for our rally, hence the 5. I'm going to try 3 color on a dark background. Not sure if it will show up, so I might need to do a white under base first, then print the other 2 on top. |
![]() October I just love your work. Maybe if I make it to Maine for the 2018 trip I can make the "6" Rally.

![]() What IS it?
![]() The Simat was an early prototype scooter built in Italy by Vittorio Belmondo in 1940. With no suspension at all, neither front or back, the only cushioning provided for the lucky rider was the springs built into the saddle. It was powered by a 98cc Sachs engine and had two speed ratios. Note the position of the gear shifter, mounted eye-wateringly close to the seat. ![]() The design pre-dates the first prototype scooters built by Piaggio and you can see the classic form of the Vespa beginning to emerge in the hump-back body of the Simat. It's a funny-looking thing - more snail than wasp - but it has a certain charm. I'd rock it. post edited to fix image links Last edited by Ironfoot on Wed Jul 12, 2017 6:38 am; edited 1 time in total |

![]() Just to add my ha'pence worth to this thread. Here's a painting I did in acrylics on watercolour paper a few years ago. 'The Brentford Getaway'. I'm from Brentford in west London, although I've lived in Dublin for the past 30 years. This is my memory of a way of life that has all but disappeared now...
![]() I do a lot of Scooter-related art under the name of 'Scooterissimo' and you're all very welcome to drop by my site: https://society6.com/coolprints Best wishes to you all, Kevin ![]()

![]() Cheers Ironfoot,
I'm using Affinity Designer; if I remember rightly, they're from Nottingham too. I couldn't afford the subscription model for Adobe! I'm working on another one right now this time it's Lambretta based...shhhhh...) I must ask (maybe off this forum) how you get on with Zazzle. Currently I've put everything on Society6. All the best, Kevin |
![]() I'm not on Zazzle. You can PM me if you wanna chat off the board. I'm hanging on to the older versions of Adobe, pre subscription era.
I wasn't aware of Affinity Designer (living in a bubble here). Reading up on it just now, it looks good. I do remember the parent software company, Serif, from years back, but I never knew they were based in Nottingham. kevinmcsherry wrote: I'm working on another one right now this time it's Lambretta based...shhhhh...) ![]() |
![]() I've collected together some of my graphics to make a little sticker pack. You might recognise some past favourites and variations of earlier designs, plus there's a couple of illustrations in there that I didn't post to MV at the time:

![]() Tiny Etch A Sketch Vespa
Finally did it! Here it is: My 2013 LXV 150 ie on the World's Smallest Etch A Sketch. (Will post the timelapse video as soon as YouTube starts cooperating with me.)
