Does it stay on all the time - or only when revving above idle? Regardless, the first step is to monitor your battery voltage at idle and then at higher revs - the usual culprit is a regulator that's given up its smoke, and is sending out a voltage that is far too high.

Yes there's a diagnostic connector - No, it's not like a car ODBII, it's a Piaggio exclusive system. You need a dealer or some serious electronic know-how to access the codes.

Voltages (with a known good fully charged battery): at idle, anywhere above 12.6V, at 3,000 rpm or higher over 13.8V but less than 15V. Higher than 15V means a bad regulator, as does less than 13V at high revs.

Good day to you, Mr. Robrjh and Mr. jimc: allow me to chime in here as I have the same issue with the yellow engine management light coming on, not at idle but at higher revs. The bike is running fine and I chose to ignore it but it needs correcting nevertheless whatever it is.
The machine has only done 6800km and should not need a regulator transplant surely? But, as I have found out to my chagrin, these things are like petulant little children and the complaints never end.

Phone around and find a dealer who'll put it on the diagnostic unit for a reasonable price. If you get your servicing done at your local dealer then they should do this for free as part of a standard service.

that would be correct IF you have it in for normal service or maintenance, if your just bringing it in for that alone you probably will pay for the diagnostics.

True - I thought that's what I had implied...

Wait, bluetooth OBD2 transceiver works with Piaggio's connector. I bought an Fiat's adapter and installed a program to my Android phone, and it connected and showed some data.

Most Generic OBDII readers only can read standard codes, not manufacture specific candles.

Going by your location, if you can get to two wheels ahead in Croydon they charge £30 to hook it up to the diagnostic machine and they seemed pretty honest when they done it to my yourban.
Iíve been quoted by other piaggio dealers £80 for that pleasure.

Its guesswork but you could start at the fusebox. Check the ABS fuses and see if removing them changes the diagnostic message. After that its a matter of going through all of the electrical connection that might be related to the ABS system including wheel speed sensors and ABS override switch ( if there is one). A dealer would test ABS components by substitution but that is a luxury you probably don't have.

ABS fault (no ABS) on a bike with no ABS is puzzling. In my mind that's not actually a fault. Maybe the code is different for that year? Or somebody replaced the ECU with a different one from an ABS bike? Or there's a wire missing/broken/disconnected that tells the ECU that there's no ABS on this model?

What technology did you use to obtain this code? I am pretty damn sure the Piaggio PADS diagnostic software wouldn't come up with that on a 2011 bike that wasn't fitted with ABS...

So itís to do with the Electronic parking unit.

If itís a break in the wire loom then that could be a really expensive job unless you can find the fault yourself.

Did they say much more as Iím sure the more information provided, someone could give you a pinpoint response to the problem.
