Me again folks - hot on the heels of last month's little camping adventure I finally get to do things a bit more properly with an overnight wild camp in this beautiful National Park - transport courtesy of the GTS.

Thanks for the great Photos
Chug,

It must be getting cool there this time of year. We are already in hibernation
here in Minnesota. I am actually watching white flakes fall from the sky.

I am a fan of the dragon red color. I noticed you have a leg wind cover
for riding.

Bob, our winters and summers are very tame compared to much of the world. We have a temperate climate thanks to that Gulf Stream. Ian Fleming said it was the only country in the world where you can comfortably go for a walk any day of the year. Some truth. Comfortably, but rarely pleasantly

But what we lack in extremes, we seem to make up for in changeability. That’s the challenge of the British weather, and why we tend to talk about it by default.

Hence the ‘wind cover’ also working to keep out rain (loads today...) and snow (such as on the first day of the trip). I can’t believe I scooted through so many winters without one!

Followed this up with my first solo attempt at wild camping in Wales at the weekend.

Thanks for the great post and photos. I may have aged out of "wild' camping unfortunately (when did the ground get so hard and lumpy? ) but photos are awesome and on a cold and snow-covered day here, anything to dream a bit...

Thanks again folks, and a Happy New Year to you all.

Problem is, once you start wild camping, you tend to look for opportunities where once there were none...

Haha thanks Guzzi Gal - I don't know about growing up though, this is all a bit of a childish lark really.

But childish larks are good!

Great reading.
How does that work? Is it public land or do you just find a nice spot and set up?

Thanks Allens.

No such thing as 'public land' as such in England & Wales (is there anywhere these days?) and camping without permission from the landowner is officially illegal. However, in some National Parks a blind eye is turned if it is done responsibly ie leave no trace and NO fires (we had a very long dry summer last year and The Peak District was particularly vulnerable).

Everywhere else is a bit more edgy, and you run the risk of getting caught. All adds to the 'stealth' naughtiness of it though...

Scotland has a law where wild camping is fine as long as you are not causing landowners any trouble. As ever, they have a much more progressive outlook north of the border

I just uploaded a new vid a couple of hours ago about a camp in The Peak District on Friday actually:
