Just starting a Sei Giorni project and am thinking about what sort of handlebar shift mechanism to use. I could go the way of original type bars but I'll be using a P2 motor and am not sure if the shifter will work with the 4spd gearbox... or go down the custom route... Has anyone done a similar conversion? Thoughts?

Not sure, that's why I'm asking. The original shifter mechanism was designed for a 3spd and the P range motor is a 4spd... maybe the shifter doesn't have enough throw for the 4spd??

Should be enough throw but you may need to tweak a bit to get enough at both ends. I put a GL150 motor in my VB1 and had to deal w/ the same situation. A friend sent me a headset that was all set up for the gearing upgrade, so looks to have been done before.

You need a ~45mm diameter pulley. I made a 42mm one for my VBB w/ p200 - only just have to rotate past the 4th mark. It will depend on the angle of turn the sei giorni gear select has. What’s the original setup you are working with - some pics of the headset and gear workings would help.

Thanks Pheas. There's nothing really there at the moment in terms of handlebars so it's really just figuring out what I want to work with. Of course, it'll just be going back to the P200 gear box selector.
