Greece too.
Just ten years ago when I found this one abandoned in the trash, w/ the floor half rusted out and a bent fork, no seat and tire rot, but a damn good motor(eventually) in the poor old wreck. Not gonna find any more like that there now!

If I had to pick just one to love, this is that one.

16 ga galvanized sheet for the floor and an upgrade PK fork, and good to go, w/ the old paint and stickers still even.

The mechanical part that recalls the valves that you call "spring" we call it "molla"; this is also called "molla" the tool similar to a long gripper which serves to stoke the embers of the fireplace.

https://it.wiktionary.org/wiki/molla

I'm sorry to say it but for some things the english language takes away poetry and imagination ...
What could a Vespa refer to?

It can only be Rocket for me.

Bought new in 2005, now my most ridden scooter with 94,000 miles on it.

It has been seeing all of Florida on Courthouse Tours in the past few months.

And has seen much of the US and Canada over the years.

It is currently running better than ever on engine number two.

My Honda 250 Nighthawk. I revived it from a slumber of abuse and it rewarded me by running like new when it finally started. It reminded me instantly of the W650 I didn't like that much but with one third the engine capacity and two-thirds the weight.

I was a Kawasaki person till I got the Honda and still have the one Kawasaki in the garage. the Nighthawk gave me new respect for Honda and it will probably be the last bike to go if I have to sell them off.

I was contacted by a local photographer who was having a photography show about bicycles.

He had heard of Rocket and its adventures and thought it would be fun to include a scooter in the exhibit.

But before the show began, Rocket ended up on the cutting room floor.

Bummer. You and Rocket have certainly been on some adventures and so there is a real story there. I guess as a bicycle photo exhibit I can see the cut but one about scooters , Rocket absolutely belongs.

My little unnamed girl was used at a bridal shower for photos. This is one of my favourite pics of her, the space was beautiful. Not a professional photo, just one I took when I dropped the GTV off.

I wax nostalgic about my 2007 Black Lx150, full chrome kit. Front & back rack.

It was my first motorized two wheeled vehicle. I rode her straight for about 2-3 years. Then as we started having kids and I changed jobs, rode her less and less. Garaged far too long. Sold her.

I miss her greatly. I LOVE the 2011 GTS 300cc but...

Sales of motorcycles and scooters in Italy.
The houses that go up and those that go down

In a growing 2019 market (+ 5.7%) there are brands that have ridden the recovery (Honda, Piaggio and BMW among the big names) and others that have struggled to maintain the volumes of the previous year, when they have not lost ground

UpdatesAs we saw a few days ago, in 2019 the Italian registrations of new models grew for the sixth consecutive year reaching the figure of almost 232,000 units (+ 5.7%).

Compared to 2018, motorcycles have increased to almost 99,000 units - a result that has not been recorded since 2010 -, with an increase of 6.3%, while scooters have grown slightly less compared to motorcycles (+ 5.3% ), but as always obtaining volumes greater than the motorcycle segment: about 133,000 specimens.

The completeness or otherwise of the range offered, and above all the arrival of new products more or less in line with the expectations of motorcyclists and scooter riders, have obviously influenced the commercial results of each brand. Just as more or less aggressive sales support operations have influenced and, not least, the comparison with a 2018 in turn influenced by the availability of novelties which are in turn more or less attractive.
2018 also coincided with the end of sales of Euro3 homologated models, a niche but important sale for some manufacturers: see the TM Pesaro that went from 1,113 in 2018 to 58 a year later.

As always, the unregistered models are missing from the count, see the cross bikes, which for some brands represent important volumes and therefore turnover.

Honda first for total sales

Before moving on to the separate motorbike and scooter rankings, let's see the one that contemplates the ranking of overall sales, mopeds naturally excluded.

Honda confirms itself as the leading brand in Italy with 54,674 units sold and a market share of almost 24%: achieving + 8% on 2018 has been able to grow more than the average increase in the market.

Piaggio, which includes the Vespa brand, also achieved a good + 7.4% and although detached from Honda - which for its part can count on the motorcycle range - is solidly in second place with 36,283 units sold.

Yamaha confirms its third position (25,846 units), which however drops by 6.2% due to the worsening of its scooter segment.

Kymco also does not take advantage of the general growth, fourth with 22,622 units (and a drop of -1.1%), while BMW double-digit growth (+ 13.1%, in the world the German brand in 2019 achieved a +5, 8%) which confirms its fifth place in the general classification, and for the first time exceeds 15,000 units sold: 15,609 to be precise.

Among the brands engaged in the motorbike and scooter segments, the + 7.5% of Kawasaki (eighth position and 7,287 units) should be noted, while the Suzuki lost 7.5% (5,003 vehicles and falling in both segments).

Motorcycles: BMW and Honda on the woolen thread

Thanks to the new R1250GS - other models of the house have gone worse - BMW has increased its motorcycle sales by 3.1% and, with 13,008 units, it is first in the registered motorcycle 2019.

The real outsider among the big ones, however, is Honda, which achieves an important + 13.6% and registers 12,978 registrations. In general, its second place becomes virtually a first if the trials sold under the Montesa brand are added to the Honda brand motorcycles (181 specimens in 2019 compared to 193 of the previous year): in this case the total would go to 13,159 units, placing the Japanese brand ahead of the German one.

At BMW, only the R-GS (the last 1200 available and the new 1250) totaled 6,500 sales: in short, the maxi enduro represents 50% of the sold BMW motorcycle in Italy.

The Africa Twin, Honda's top seller, is worth 29% for its brand. The three best-selling Honda are all with high handlebars: after the Africa Twin we find the NC750X and CB500X.

Yamaha and Ducati, in order, rank third and fourth with modest increases: +0.6 and + 1% respectively; translated into numbers, they make 11,647 and 9,280 units. 64% of Yamaha sales are represented by MT-07, MT-09, Tracer 700 and Tracer 900; the new three-wheeler Niken has obtained 205 registrations.

60% of Ducati sales are due to Multistrada 950 and 1260, Scrambler 800 and Hypermotard 950.

It obtained the fifth place in the KTM ranking (+ 5.1%), which has the 125 Duke as its top seller, followed by the new Duke 790 (753 specimens) and the specialist EXC 300 (704), while the two new 790 Adventure and R they total 693 specimens.

The double digit of Kawasaki increases (+ 9.8%): Z900, Z650 and Versys 650 are the best sellers of the brand (well over a thousand units), while ZX-10 and H2 SX stopped at 90 and respectively 66 units.

Important growth for Benelli: + 35.8% and 6,798 units: 45% of its sales are represented by the TRK502; followed, very detached, Leoncino 500 and BN125.

-30.90%

Harley-Davidson instead pays -7.6%, falling below five thousand units as it had already happened in recent 2014 and 2015. Harley-Davidson is also reported this time to have sales spread on a higher number of models than other brands: the most represented family is that of the Sportster, and the 883 Iron is the favorite with 558 units sold.

Triumph sales are up 6.3% (Street Twin, Tiger 800 and Street Triple are the preferred ones), while Suzuki motorcycles have experienced a -6.7% (3,210 units). For the fourth Japanese brand in the ranking, the V-Strom 650 and V-Strom 1000 represent 54% of total motorcycle sales.

Moto Guzzi is in eleventh place in the ranking by brands, which leaps to 2,939 units (with a significant + 43.3%) thanks to the arrival of the new V85TT: 1,203 motorcycles sold in its first year of marketing.
However, this time too, the V7 is the favorite among the Mandello models (1,502 units, more than half of the Guzzi sold), although slightly down compared to 2018; instead the V9 Bobber (88 specimens) and the V9 Roamer (5 are struggling, and the four versions of the California 1400 reach just 47 units.

Fantic Motor doubled its sales in 2019, thanks to the availability of new models: + 115% and 2,248 units.
The Caballero 500 were the preferred ones, with a total of 970 units.

Beta (+ 9.3%), Husqvarna (+ 6.4%, after the TE 300 the most sold is the Svartpilen 401 with 206 units) and Royal Enfield (+ 25%) are also active: the Indian company has sold 448 single cylinder Himalayan and 343 twin cylinder Interceptor.

Aprilia, SWM and MV Agusta followed with a negative balance. The Venetian brand (978 specimens and -9.3%) has the Dorsoduro 900 as the first model in the ranking (263 units), followed by the Tuono V4 1100 Factory and RR (218) and the RSV4 (versions 1000 and 1100) with 119.

SWM loses 26% (drops to 549 units), and MV Agusta drops 31% in 2019 with 358 new registrations. The Brutale 800RR, with 102 units, was the best-selling MV model in Italy last year, and the three Brutale 800 versions on the list represented 70% of the MV registered.

Scooter: Honda and then Piaggio

Once again, Honda is the leading brand in the scooter segment sales, reaching 42,000 units and growing by 6.3%. As if to say that every ten new scooters sold, three are from the Japanese company. There are 29,820 scooters produced by Honda Italia, in line with the result of 2018. The three high-wheeled models of the SH series reach 28,000 units, but significant are the almost 4,300 units reached by the maxi scooter X-ADV 750, followed by rotates from the Forza 300.

Piaggio also does better than the average of the scooter market (+ 5.3%), obtaining + 7.4% and exceeding the 36,000 units sold. The preferred models for the Pontedera brand are Beverly 300 (8,212 units), Liberty 125 (5,910), Beverly 350 (3,825) and Vespa GTS with almost 3,500 units.

Kymco maintains the third position, with 22,600 units, but it drops by 1%: also for the Taiwanese brand, "high wheels" are the most popular models (Agility 125, People 150 and 125), while the maxi scooter AK550 reaches 759 unit.

More important setback for Yamaha (-11.2%) which sees its sales drop to 14,199 units. If the sales of the three Tricity wheels went a little better than 2018 (1,400 total units), those of the XMAX 300 (4,609 units), the TMAX 530 (2,785) and the XMAX 400 (1,689) slowed somewhat.

These four brands (Honda, Piaggio, Kymco and Yamaha) alone controlled 86% of the scooter market in Italy.

Behind the four big names, SYM was confirmed (+ 19.8% and 7,787 units), while BMW more than doubled its share (+ 119%) thanks to the arrival of the 400X and 400GT innovations, while sales of the twin-cylinder models 650 Sport and GT. The C-Evolution electric dropped from 42 units sold in 2018 to 28 in 2019.

Peugeot (-21.3%) and Suzuki (-9%) lost ground, while large percentage increases, starting from small volumes, were achieved by Quadro (+ 179%) and Askoll, thanks to the many electric models offered by sharing (+ 160%). Kawasaki, on the other hand, fell (-28.4%), to 305 units sold.

My first and only Vespa love. Bought her new eleven years ago this Feb, she's outlived the totality of Vespa dealers in the state of Kentucky.
