So the scoot is just about ready to being painted and I am desperate to find the exact code (RAL I think) for the 1969 color I want (also done later) called "Verde Alga" with a Max Meyer code of 1.298.6394.

I have no transportation so I cannot look at swatches and I have no time (decision within 24h absolute time limit).

I have searched everywhere and made calls and I can't figure it out. Anybody has the modern RAL code for this paint?

Please don't tell me to look at swatches, I can't, or give me a PPG code, that won't do, or look at online pics or website, I've done that.

I hope someone can help.

You already have the code (394). A paint shop with a complete motorcycle catalog should be able to mix it. They must search it in the Piaggio line. It could appear as 394, PIA 394 or PIAG 394...

Or if it *HAS* to be an RAL color... it looks like RAL 6019 is the closest equivalent match you will find.

I was texting the paint store all day, they can't match it. Thanks though.

Yes, it HAS to be RAL.

Your post helps a lot. 6019 seems close but not khaki / army enough. but you did help: I'm thinking 6021 might do the job BUT when I look online not all 6021 are alike. This would be very, very close:

As long as you not trying to match parts on an already painted scooter you should be fine. That 6021 looks like a great color.

Thanks. Yeah, not trying to match, just trying to get a nice paint. 6021 might be the winner indeed.

Now, ANY idea of a good white that wouldn't conflict with the Conti whitewalls? I'm thinking just plain white.

I recently took a max Meyer/ PIA code to my local PPG (and other) paint supplier and he couldn't find anything in the PPG catalogs.

I think the various email threads saying that PPG has a proprietary MM-to-PPG paint code translator are inaccurate or anachronistic. It doesn't seem to exist anymore, if it ever existed.

Crazy. Why do you think the PPG suppliers can't find the codes?

I wish I had found that page...

PPG can't find the codes because PPG North America only makes a handful of the original vespa colors and the codes are different. The list is on this page https://modernvespa.com/forum/post2298201?sid=2181517e668b15b62635c248b80391f4#2298201.

Glasurit Paint is the only national paint store I know in North America that you can actually use a Max Meyer paint code like PIA 715 or Piaggio 715 to get the the correct paint.

BTW, the OP is in Europe so getting Vespa Max Meyer Paint from an actual PPG paint dealer is easier as they still use the old paint codes. He needs a RAIL number which is a different animal itself.

That makes sense. I had given my PPG guy the MM code and signaled that the last three digits were supposed to be the PPG code and he couldn't do anything with that.

Now I know why.

The result was me looking at dozens of virtually identical sample cards and trying to eyeball a color that looked close. Very difficult!

I like the colors, I've always liked two tone paint schemes.
