Went to change the belt on the MP3 500 yesterday, belt has 7,000 miles but was just installed in the spring of this year.
Pulled the old belt and got ready to install the new one, started looking at the old belt and it looked new. Writing still clearly readable, flipped the belt inside out to look for cracks and there were NONE, I mean not one crack on the inside of the belt like all my old ones.
So i threw it back on and will check on it in a few thousand miles.

What kind of belt is it? Maybe they've reengineered it.

That is the one I have too. Will check at 10,000 miles then, as no long high speed runs expected. Try to keep it around 65 or less on the highway with higher speed as needed for short times. But mostly back roads in the 35-55 MPH range.
Average speed on the GPS ranges from 35 to 45 MPH

You should be fine (statistically).
My travels are either over 70 MPH or two-up ~55+ MPH.
One of those two account for not less than 80% of total miles.

with over 400,000 miles of rubber band drive scooter experience since 1990---I say change belt at maker's recommended miles....with OEM belt, period. I have had only one belt break in that time---Helix in VA, I carry spare belt, Helix easy belt change with out moving front pulley. Walking sucks and getting run over worse!

Nope, belt looked new, I mean there was not one crack, not even a tiny one when the belt was flipped inside out.
Just got home from a 500 mile round trip to my brothers house via Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway.
