![]() Refastened brake disc screws with Loctite Blue.
Some bonus scootering weather here today but when I tried to pull away for a ride something was preventing the wheels from going all the way round. Turned out one of the brake disc screws had backed itself out and was hitting against the caliper/shock mount. The other four were loose too! So, PSA, if you have an LML scooter and you haven't put thread locker on these screws yet, you probably should. Great ride once that was sorted.

![]() Same thing happened to my Stella last year. Got it towed back to my garage where i finally realized what happened. Just be thankful it didn't happen at speed! It really created a gouge in my hub arm just from trying to roll it through.

![]() speaking of corrosion...
I'd noticed of late that my clutch was getting really, really heavy. Even a 30 minute ride in town would leave my arm aching. I spent 2 weeks going down the forum rabbit hole -- Cosa clutch? Teflon or custom cables? Routing issues? Dog leg levers? Last weekend I set out to just adjust the clutch as there was now a ton of slop at the lever in addition to requiring 30 lbs of pull force. 10 minutes later and I find I have a clutch so heavy I can barely pull it at all. Hmm maybe a little lube will help. Almost anything can be fixed with lube or duct tape. So I pulled the cable a bit to spray some cable lube in there and found that the cable was about as gross and rusty as a cable can get. Think of a WalMart mountain bike left in the backyard for 10 years in Wisconsin. So cable out, loads of lube down the housing, a little moly on the cable itself and then all back together. Holy heck! I think I now have a smart shifter. I think about shifting, maybe my fingers move maybe not I can't really tell, and then I'm in the next gear. Just a reminder that sometimes the solution really IS the simple solution and neglect for general preventative maintenance can slowly make things worse in an incremental way that you don't always pick up on. h |

![]() Thanks for that Hal. I've been transporting the P200 on the back of the motorhome wherever we go. Everything is getting....stiff.... I'll replace the cables soon.

I think I decided my dalliance with Lambrettas will be a short one.

![]() So as if having my entire house shake Christmas morning when that asshat blew himself up and took out AT&T''s Central Office (I live three miles away) wasn't enough, this morning, my wife went outside to discover a stray bullet hit her car last night. A .45 ACP, looking at the slug.
It could be worse, though. I could own a Lambretta. ![]() On the bright side, the workshop is now open for business, even if electricity is still an extension cord from the house and it's a big pile of boxes inside. Nevertheless, I'm going to do my first wrenching in entirely too long tomorrow and figure out why there's 6mm of front-to-back play in the VBB's fork. I can't wait! ![]() Happier news ![]() .45 ACP, we all agreed ![]() |

![]() Today I remembered I had done quite a bit over the last month. Two big trips including Not the Mille, breakdowns and stuff. And yesterday a great little 200k ride locally with a mate.
My 23yo son now identifies as female, so I have a surprise daughter! Was great to see her at christmas. But the really big event for me was starting a new relationship with an absolutely lovely woman who is making me feel like one very lucky guy. ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() Congrats, Ginch! Glad to see that you're doing well all around. And I'm also glad that your daughter is comfortable enough with her dad to be her true self.
Do you know the story of whatever is now just three chimneys? Personally, I advanced the timing on the Sprint a couple degrees today, which boosted the power quite nicely. Who doesn't like a nice accidental second gear power wheelie? Once I got on the highway, though, the motor fuel starved pretty badly, so now I get to chase that gremlin. At least I have a nice warm workshop again, even if I don't have proper electrical yet. |

We were a bit intrigued as to why the 3 were so close together but didn't come up with an answer. The area is full of tiny cottages though, usually known as a "miner's cottage". Some of the very early ones had chimneys made of corrugated iron. Great to see you have a decent place to work now. That seemed quick! |

![]() Good grief - turn my back for a moment and Birdsnest discovered lambrettas are a lotta work, Chandlerman got blown up and shot at, Christopher estimated distance of a random shooter, Ginch got laid, and Saffis got new Christmas lights.
Y'all have been busy! Mery Merry everyone. My life made better by this forum. Appreciate you all. -CM |

![]() charlieman22 wrote: My life made better by this forum. ![]() I'm about to have to down the Sprint for a bunch of deferred maintenance, I've decided. Yesterday right after I found out the hard way that I was having fuel starvation issues, the clutch started not wanting to fully engage, plus one of my rearview mirrors decided to vibrate and break off the homemade bracket, and I've known it was about time for some gear spacer adjustment, if not new gears. So I guess I'll drop the motor and get to work. Lucky for me I still have the Stella to ride so I can deal with all that, plus balance the tires while the motor is out of the bike, plus probably new bearings for the front fork since it's started to shudder (even more than usual) while braking. I guess I got the new workshop finished just in time! |
![]() Ginch... great stuff all around.
Ned.. I don't mind the work (albeit it makes small frame wrenching look spacious by comparison.) I just can't realistically manage 4 scoots in my tiny ass garage. Sigh. City living. The drag is the Li is pretty much dialed in now... 2 kicks and go... All the lights work... brakes, etc. It's a great cruiser. Maybe I can convince the War Department I need a workshop like Chandlerman's (minus the stray bullets)? Happy New Years all! |

![]() Chandlerman, you need a new avatar where the guy jumping through flames catches a bullet in his teeth... we need the full story!
Thanks for the well wishes (and TMI comment - looking at you Charlieman!). It's nice to have something besides scooters to obsess over. |
