I'm sensing a theme from Dave in the Nominate Your Favorite Post! thread. Tools! Specifically the exotic ones that you won't find at the local hardware store. We should list all the specialty tools needed to work on modern Vespas, a picture of each one, what it's for, and a link to a page on making a homemade equivalent.

Added some basic section entries to the article. And thus, structure was born. This is probably the single most important thing we can do at this stage in the wiki's life: provide a framework for others to create. We don't have to write all the content ourselves, we just have to show them where the holes are and let them fill in the blanks. Even if the page is essentially empty (like this one currently is) it defines the needed content in specific terms. I believe (hope) people will respond to this.

Yeah, really glad someone took the bait there.

Based on my early response to that thread, I was starting to think that this whole wiki project would get a lukewarm reception, with nobody wanting to bother to contribute material to it. I still live in abject fear of this, but I at least see that Dave is at least taking the trouble to find the threads that he found useful. That's a sign of life, at least.

Definitely. In fact, we should have a page devoted to each individual homemade tool, with instructions for how to make it.
We can then point to each on from the appropriate section in the Specialty Tools article.

I wouldn't bother with a variator tool on this kind of variator. A screwdriver wedged in the teeth against the upper sump cover works MUCH better that the buzetti tool which slips. Trust me, I have bought the tool which is crap!

I made this clutch holding tool from one for the ET2/4. The posts were a little too short for the GT/GTS. I removed the original posts and then threaded the holes for a 1/4" bolt. I then sanded the hex heads off the bolts and rounded them off a little. I can remove the posts to store the tool in my onboard tool bag. You can make this tool yourself from Aluminum, Steel or even Wood.
