I picked up an MP3 500 from Barney's in Brandon, FL June 10th, I went back the 18th for the first service with over 700 miles on it. I'm planning on heading to Key West the 22nd or 23rd of June then North to Alaska. I'm starting in Clearwater FL so I decided why not do it right and hit the Southern and Northern points in North America.
I'm riding a pretty much 'out of the box' MP3. I've added a GPS - running the power from under the seat - some soft luggage and that's it. I'm strapping a duffle, a lawn chair, cold and wet weather gear and some basic tools to it and I'm off. I'll deal with it as it comes. My only fear is flats and the drive belt disintegrating.
From Key West I'm heading to Varsity Cycles in Ft. Lauderdale to see if they have a Piaggio screen for the 500. I called last week and they said they were going to order one. Because of time constraints I couldn't get one in the Tampa Bay area.
From Lauderdale its North to the 'Dragon' which I've driven many times in a car but never on two (oops three) wheels and then maybe a day exploring the Smokies.
From there it's really an open itinerary; obviously I need to go North and then West. I picked up a lot of tips and wisdom on the site and I'm really appreciative of all those who have posted. As the trip progresses, fingers crossed, I'll put up some pics and a few videos.
