I am keen to know what plug to use on the later Malossi 166 kit, I see a few threads on the MK1 kit that say to use a short reach plug, but some have suggested a long reach plug for the MK2 kit (which it is currently running without problem)

So, what plug for a MK2 kit?
Is it best to use a resistor type plug for a 2017 PX150 with Malossi VesPower Electronic ignition?

Thanks!

Do you have the instructions that came with the kit? Towards the end of it itíll list a recommended plug. Google spark plug cross reference sites and maybe you can find out.

I sadly only have the Mk1 instructions that list a cooler burning short plug.

Sadly no, I only presume it is a MK2 as it was bought and fitted in 2018/19, plus it has a long reach in it anyway.

I only picked it up last week.

Do you have the manual for the MK3 or a link online, I have looked but can't find it?

Happy to PM my email if okay?

Here is the manual online.. basically same one but older. part number for this kit in this manual is 314093. Also says long reach plug. Only difference that I know of between the 166 mk versions is the head. The mk3 one is what they sold in 2018-19 until they discontinued it for the new 177 kit.

Great thanks, so looking at the numbers, and cross referencing I need a:

Denso Iridium IW24 - NGK BR8EIX
or
Denso Iridium IW27 - NGK BR9EIX

I could probably get a non iridium, one but my local place has a NGK in stock so I'll grab an NGK BR8EIX

It is in the not so modern section because it is a twisty 2 cycle.

If you pull the head you can tell what it will take. A short plug in a long head will be recessed above the threads. A long plug in a short head will stick out into the combustion chamber.

Thanks, I could also just measure the depth of the thread with a Vernier depth gauge.

I am not wishing to take anything apart as I use it everyday and also, it is running fine as it is.

'Not so modern' is a reference to any 'traditional' Vespa, ie. one that has gears, has a two stroke engine and is air cooled. This is how they were from the early days, right up to the final PX production in 2016. Sure the later ones had disc brakes, electric start, fuel gauges and choking emissions systems, but they are still basically the same as those from the '60s and '70s

I meant the 'twisty 2 cycle' bit
