Due to back problems, I would like to get a flatter seat for my 2006 GTS. (This would allow me to slide back more easily to keep my back straight but bent over a bit).

Am I right in thinking there is a flatter version from another bike that would fit as a standard replacement? I am sure I read something about this once, just cannot work out which seat would fit.

Thanks,

Charles.

the GT200 seat has a flatter profile. I've got a spare one you can try out if you like. If it suits, it's yours gratis.

I use the Super 300 seat on my GTS 250,
It appears to be a bit firmer than the stock GTS seat.

That's so nice of Genie

Genie is right, the GT200 seat is a perfect fit and will allow you to slide back. I ended up removing the strap so I could slide back more easily. In the past, I had severe back problems which resulted in a fused spine. At times, it can get a little sore in my lumbar area. Out of the three seats I have: a Pirate with a gel insert, a stock GTS, and a GT, the GT seat is by far the most comfortable for my back.

oh yes i should have mentioned that - my spare GT200 seat doesn't have a strap either. it's black with a blue racing stripe down the middle so will clash horribly with your red GTS charles

Thanks for the offer Genie.

I know the seat well - glad you changed it as it did not really work with your lovely greenish paint job!

I will have a look at the GT seat to see, I could always get a new cover made by our friend (Alan I think his name is). Does the seat come with the hinge? Will it cope with another remove/install of another cover? Mine has been re-stapled a few times now and I wonder how many more it will survive.

Charles.

yes, it comes with a hinge - there's a bit of surface rust on it but it works fine. as far as I know mine's only been re-covered once so should cope with a few more rounds of stapling.

This is exactly why I was thinking of trying one out (no fusing, just lumbar pain).

Genie, I am very tempted to take you up on the kind offer and even rush over tomorrow or Tuesday to make the change before the big road trip on Wednesday morning. PM me if you are around if required.

You won't regret it Charles - and if I'd known genie had a spare 200 seat I'd have spirited it away long ago.

Though to be fair I find the GTS seats are just about OK for me.

When I sold my GT and bought a GTS, I swapped seats so I could keep the comfy one. I also like to sit in the middle of the seat. But I also shaved the slight hump in the GT seat to make it even more comfortable.

I also swapped the GTS carrier for the GT rack, as I far prefer the rack for mounting a topbox.

I took my GTS250 to an upholsterer who trimmed off some foam to make the seat level. He was able to re-install the original cover.

I put a gt seat on my gts 300 for this same reason the paddings softer and its easier to slide my butt back into a less upright position when lumbar area plays up definately worth doing imo

I took my stock GTS seat, removed the cover and used a sharp knife and belt sander and now have a nice and flat seat.

I reinstalled the original cover with no problems!

I did add a bit of building foam into the seat shell as the support splines where now cutting into the thinner foam, but it is working out great.

I am pleased to report that the seat arrived and was fitted last night.

Just spent 7 hours riding and it really helped being able to slide around when required. Made a massive difference increasing the number of easy to attain riding positions.

Now all I need is for it to stop bloody raining!

I have been emailing Alan about a new cover but I may even (reading the messages above) swap them over so I can keep my original (custom) Alan cover.

(Jim - I will keep you posted on availability of a seat as I understand you may be looking for one - would a GTS seat suffice? - Perhaps with either black/red piping (subtle) or black with a navy blue stripe down the middle (which you may be familiar with), or, if it is not rotted away, and original black cover (with a slight matt texture to it that came with the 2006 GTS)

No, I don't want another GTS seat! Along with the Fuoco seat (which has oh-so-similar drawbacks) one of the worst design ideas by Piaggio. Sod getting a slightly bigger 3/4 helmet under there, I want my bum not to burn on a 400-mile ride. Idiots.
