Howdy all.

I know there is an old thread on this, but I thought it was time for a new one.

And I took a photo of my keys the other night and had no where to show it off

So, I'll show you mine. Show me yours?

Hi Tabs, Just a friendly reminder not to put too many items/keys on your key chain. I generally advise two keys only. Factory vespa keys like to separate.

I typically receive at least one every few days from a member that has a broken key.

http://vespajim.blogspot.com/2012/06/vespa-key-replacementarghhhhhh.html

Again, just a wee reminder

Cheers

Yes you too.

The blue rubber factory key has no reinforcement around the keyhole where most folk like to dangle key chains and additional keys.

Everyone of the keys pictured is from an MV member. I have over 300 broken keys and as many pictures.

I have been a locksmith for 28 years. The factory blue key is the worst design I have ever seen.

Just trying to save folk the headache of messing up their key.

Cheers

Oooh - thanks for the tip Jim!

At the moment I just have the vespa key, griplock key and my apartment key. I have to take the Scoot to a locksmith to get rid of my topbox key

Are you able to give a weight limit for the keys? It would be easier to weigh and know if I was over or under.

Tabs, I would suggest no more than 2 keys total. Also a very light key fob too.

It's now become the norm for me to receive keys that look like this (below)

I can be simply prevented by removing anything that does not belong.

If you are luck only the rubber head will fall off. Sadly many members have lost the RFID. Unless I have cut and cloned their key, there is very little I can do to help.

Cheers

Earlier this summer for a couple of days, I got to ride a friend's '63 GS, that he's had since new. Thing runs great and is FAST, especially after my lil' 50S. He's had many more and has traded up regularly, but decided to keep this one (now at his summer place), as it was his first Vespa. He still has the original keys

..and I have these originals for my Rally and Primavera

little key is for big bike, big SIEM is for smallie

loving this key thread.

So can anyone answer why I only have one bare metal key, and most of you have blue rubber ones?

The blue keys are for newer models that have anti-theft electronic lockouts built into the scooter. the blue part holds an rf-id chip so it cannot be simply duplicated...it must be cloned.

I've gone through maybe 6 of these since high school. They get stingy and threadbare but then I happen upon an air and space museum I have visited and voila, problem solved!
