My Sprint qualifies as a rat and a survivor. It turns out I know the guy who bought it back in 1967 and put that orange paint on it.

I keep wondering why Jimmy is being so shy. I could go search for some pics of his little sweetie, but I'd much rather he choose them!

C'mon Jimmy. and maybe also some from your past if they qualify?

@ Bits, you can have that orange & white Popsicle bike, I'm having this one. just something about those w i d e gracefully curved handlebars on that stupid low natural ratbike

And to clear up any questions, YES this is a catch all thread for ALL types of 'incorrect' scooters with any sort of rat aspect. I personally love semi-claptrap still running survivors, but there's a lot of other stuff I like to see too. If you like it, please post it. I'll post more of this one when I get some new shots. Just got a Super fork so I can fix the shock & run my sexy new rims & hubs.

Real nice. While I'm composing a carefully thought out post here in my OWN thread, F'ing jimmy sneaks in & posts ONE lousy pic of his SUPPOSEDLY semi-proper Lammy behind my back.......

Ratty Norwegians.
I'm not really sure what the difference between a rat and a survivor is. Here are some more Norwegian rats (or survivors, or whatever):

Someone torched it while parked on the street. Later, the owner fixed everything but the paint.

This one might be Finnish.

SH*T Magg! I'm starting to think that while America does OK with OG & restored bikes, we generally suck at rat bikes. Whatever those are...

Some notable exceptions have appeared, one with actual rat decoration up front

So I looked and I've successfully resisted reposting pics here of half the stuff I saw over there.
This Lammy is the exception. If you didn't see it, I know you'll want to.
If anybody knows something about it or has more pics, I'd appreciate your sharing here.

Right! I agree with you B... I often see "rats" that are merely bikes painted flat black w/ red rims and white walls (in a "hot rod" style) that have been dubbed rats.. in that vein anyway...

In MY O.. a rat isn't contrived... it isn't though out and "designed" like that, but rather a bike that is made to run using whatever parts are available to the owner (I'm not talking about soda cans as shims and gaskets), and of course that often comes with "rougher" funky, mix & match, patchwork aesthetics.. and that's where I find the beauty of a rat.. but "rat" like many other labels is subjective open to interpretation.

My 2c for the rat files!

I agree. To me a rat bike is one that has been beat up from use, abuse, exposure etc. Mechanicaly it might be aces but it looks like it is just ready to fall apart. With mine it looks like hell...but it's far from stock and a freaking fast scooter

I'm not a fan of the new trend of "creating" a rat bike...unless it's by throwing it off a hill!

I don't mind a "created" rat, as long as it's created form legitimate sources.

I've seen one or two with fake rust and scratches painted on them. That's just posing. I appreciate the artistry and effort that goes into any kind of customizing, but fake rust does not a rat make.

Rats!
I don't know what a rat is, except it's NOT looking like the original. Because of abuse, wear & rust OR getting whacked up & cut down OR made out of pieces of different bikes - Its NOT really 'correct' or in 'good' condition appearance wise.

This continues to be a tolerant thread and 'RAT' is loosely applied.
Post whatever you want, doesn't mean anybody has to change what they think is a proper RAT. I always refer to my Cosa as a RAT and maybe I'll add some new pics of that.

I disagree, that spoked wheel jobby is a HOTROD.

I think a rat is an original looking but modded performance. it should look like shit and run like hell.

Oh no.. not you too! Kid.. you're right, cause that that's how you see it... which is okee dokee!
But to me there's Nothing Rat about it.. he didn't use anything on there out of necessity, that bike was planned out and designed and even had parts fabricated... perhaps. So this one doesn't fit in MY Rat category.. but again, dats just one yokel's O! OK. I'm done.. Thanks for the ho down!!

UNCLE! I will edit the description to 'Custom Bike, RAT Themed' as indicated by the paint job, or lack thereof. I only wanted to indicate the wide range of bikes allowed in. I would ROAST somebody I knew well if they posted up something that 'qualified' but sucked. We're seeing a wide range of custom, purposebuilt, urban warrior, incidental and even beautiful old bikes that haven't been able always to spend bad weather indoors.

ALL the bikes posted so far would be considered plenty 'ratty' by a large slice of the ppl that have to see them I'm enjoying the show & really appreciate those that have either posted their own bikes, or posted up their favorites from where ever - ESPECIALLY if it's not something most of us have seen before many times.

Highly engineered RAT, 'Created' Division ?

Is flat black, possible 'intent' & appealing 'give a shit' outcome enough?

that's why I said "custom rat". Based on what you are saying, I think my idea of rat is right in line with yours.
