Boy, I get two in a row! Wasn't expecting to post this on this thread, but what a difference a day makes. It's about my mother...88 years old, independent as
hell. Bit of a bad heart, been hospitalized a couple of times with a-fib, but pretty damned good for her age.
Ten days ago found a lump in her breast. Saw a relatively new GP, who simply felt her breast told her it's "probably cancer at your age," and left. Mammogram and biopsy last week. The suspense is always a killer.
Went along to the surgeon today for emotional support and a second set of ears. Told us she found it early, without metastasis probably completely curable and gave choice of lumpectomy and radiation or mastectomy. She chose the latter. Looks like she'll have a pretty uneventful recovery.
Doctor took plenty of time, made everything very clear, especially for my geriatric mom. Felt very confident in him and despite facing surgery, pretty darned relieved that she'll very likely die of old age rather than cancer.
Funny how one can consider that good news, but that's how life plays out. Feel like a pretty big weight of concern and fear is lifted.
Seeing as how life is often complicated, off to rant on What's Pissing You Off thread....
