Boy, I get two in a row! Wasn't expecting to post this on this thread, but what a difference a day makes. It's about my mother...88 years old, independent as
hell. Bit of a bad heart, been hospitalized a couple of times with a-fib, but pretty damned good for her age.

Ten days ago found a lump in her breast. Saw a relatively new GP, who simply felt her breast told her it's "probably cancer at your age," and left. Mammogram and biopsy last week. The suspense is always a killer.

Went along to the surgeon today for emotional support and a second set of ears. Told us she found it early, without metastasis probably completely curable and gave choice of lumpectomy and radiation or mastectomy. She chose the latter. Looks like she'll have a pretty uneventful recovery.

Doctor took plenty of time, made everything very clear, especially for my geriatric mom. Felt very confident in him and despite facing surgery, pretty darned relieved that she'll very likely die of old age rather than cancer.

Funny how one can consider that good news, but that's how life plays out. Feel like a pretty big weight of concern and fear is lifted.

Seeing as how life is often complicated, off to rant on What's Pissing You Off thread....

First of congrats on your kid getting his masters!

OK so not on the same level but... If you have a 4K TV and can stream 4 K Netflix you need to watch "Sparks" . It's just a short demo video of the day in the life of a welder. Shot at 24 fps with UHD and all the bells and whistles. It look amazing on my LG OLED.

Just booked our next corporate event in 2020. We do a nice sit down Christmas dinner/evening but I like to do something in the doldrums of the Ontario winter so we're all going to Dweezil Zappa in March with VIP tickets . I sent out an email asking who wanted to go... as well it's a but of an acquired taste but everyone is in! I'm exited as I've never seen him live and apparently he does his dad proud and is an incredible performer. I SO hope he plays Moving to Montana and Muffin Man! Frank's songs but Dweezil does his own solos and composition that are amazing.

Guess I'm the only happy person here . OK it may also be no one looks at this thread! Anyway beautiful fall day here in the big city. 4 hour power outage at our biggest client but all the critical servers came back online automatically just like they are supposed to. Just stopping by the client to press the buttons on the render farm and going out for a ride. Honey do list is already all done so the day is mine.

I've been happy all week.

I started my new job this past Monday. Everyone I've meet in the organization has been happy & upbeat about working here.

And not only is my pay rate very good (as mentioned earlier), but the other benefits are awesome, too. I have three options for health insurance, four for dental coverage, and two vision plans to choose from. All of my vacation time rolls over from year to year, with no limit or expiration. During the summer, I get the option of either working M-F, from 7a to 3:30p, with a 30 minute lunch (standard hours are M-F, 7:30a-4:30p, with 1 hour lunch), or I can work M-Th, from 7a to 6p, with an hour lunch, thus giving me 3-day weekends through the summer. Also, I get the entire week of July 4 off paid. There are a total of 19 paid days off during the year, not counting my 2-weeks of vacation.

The equipment and systems I'll be using are top-notch. I'll have a brand-new PC and MacBook to use, both with full Adobe CC installed. The printers are faster and more robust than what I've been using. If I need special software, and it's in the software library, I can enter my username/password, and download & install it.

The time clock system is awesome. If I get to work early, I can clock in, and as long as I tell it that I'm not authorized to work overtime, it will start my day at 7:30, so I don't have to hang around the time clock in order to punch in on time. And there's a 6-minute buffer, so as long as I clock in between 7:24 and 7:36, it'll count it as 7:30. Same thing when I clock out.

I know it's early in my career here, but so far I'm loving my new job.

Out of curiosity - how is Netflix priced there, do you have to pay ~douple to get the 4 K?

We do... and as I'm selectively cheap, and don't really use that much Netflix, I'll do with the lower quality and save the few Euros per month, hip hip hooray.

I do have a 4 K disc player for those rare movies I really wish to see with UHD.... when student/early stages at work I used to have more money invested in my HiFi systems than in my car... some of them were good investments: we still have my old Bower & Wilkins loudspeakers standing in our living room and they still sound better than most of the soap boxes available today....mayby look a bit dated

Yeah we get dinged pretty hard. Not quite twice as much but yeah. Kinda BS as the other services don't do it. Best quality I've seen is on my X Box one X and ultra blue-ray. I picked up express VPN last week and man the difference in what's available with Amazon Prime in the US is crazy. BTW Express VPN is the best for changing your location for streaming.

BTW the Disney streaming service is pretty good for the price. The Mandalorean (sp?) is well worth it. Might be the next GoT.

No, when a "Help Wanted" ad is asking for "Entry Level" they still want bright and energetic -- but willing to work for low wages.

Got my results from my first Spartan Sprint (Around a 5k obstacle course race)

I didn't really prepare for the race. I'm not a runner and there was more running in between obstacles than I anticipated. I usually do a 5k road race with my wife once or twice a year. I average 40-45 minutes to complete those.

I was proud of myself for doing. Mentally a bit bummed at the Hour and 50 minutes it took to accomplish the race. Mad about my fall onto my tailbone during the sandbag hike. My bum still hurts pretty wicked and made riding the last two days an interesting experiment.
