I got bored and decided to make some notes on what I'd like to change on the MP3's (horridly designed) saddle. You can erase Sharpie's right? If not, at least I chose a color that goes along with the lower silver panel, hehe.

It turns out that Sharpie's are quite permanent, so I figured I'd just replace the cover.

Updates to follow.

Mosquito repellent, like OFF and others works for removing sharpie marks. I use at work for same purpose on hard plastic and some vinyl. Silver is a bit tough but it works,

Well, sure, I could do that. But then the upholsterer would have to do a lot more guessing.

I don't get how it's horridly designed?

I'm thinking you may mean like a pair of Converse classic basketball shoes that my foot may be too wide for, doesn't mean the shoe is a bad design if 80% of people don't have wide feet and they were designed to sell for a profit.

I don't think you'll find that the MP3 500 seat fits 80% of it's riders and that makes it a bad design in my book. It's ridable up to about half an hour, but after that, it starts getting uncomfortable.

But you don't know that, you aren't taking in the whole world, all riders, and what the cost of production and profit figures for them are versus what affects people buying it. Design takes in all of those things and a lot more.

People were shitty when Piaggio took Aprilia and made a cheaper product... and say it's shit. But it's at a profit, and that attitude is happy to see great old Aprilia go down the gurgler.

Like the rule for buying houses, 80/20, you're unlikely to find a perfect fit for every person.

And some people just moan louder than others.

Well, I realized that I screwed up pretty badly, writing all over my seat like that. Like turning in a test to be graded, I sent it off to some experts to see if my scribbling made any sense. Turns out they did!

Here's a few more shots.

They've recovered the top in a very thin layer of foam to get rid of any imperfections or changes in foam showing through the new cover. Here you can see the shape. The major changes are as follows:

The riders area was widened and dished in the center. The nose area was raised to eliminate the forward slope.

The passenger area was widened and recontoured to get rid of the 2" slope from front to back. The taper along the back and rear edges was eliminated and brought up level with the top to make the area wider. The front was raised and tapered towards the center to provide a slight backrest area for the rider.

And here's the final product. I know it's not real carbon fiber, but I love the look of this weave pattern, especially with the white piping.

Keep in mind, this is a full dual saddle rework. If I'd had just the rider's area redone, the seat would have looked much slimmer at the rear. The taper really does add visual appeal to the rear, but I'd rather go with the comfort instead.

It should be heading back to me today, so I'll be able to evaluate it next week. I'm very optimistic!

That's the plan, but I do have to wait till it gets back to me. These are pictures that they sent to me while they were working on it.

According to the tracking number, it should get here on Thursday. Man, I can't wait. It looks like they did a wonderful job with it!

Very nice looking.

I keep wavering back and forth on whether I want to do that or not. Truth is, I really think my 500 seat is very comfortable...it's just seems too tall for me at 5'4".

Now, the MP3 250 seat is another matter...I rode it the other day, after not riding it much recently, and it felt very stiff and uncomfortable.

Funny...I never noticed that before now...

I've added pics and a run down of the whole process as well as an initial review of the new seat here. I'll work on formatting it to work on MV tomorrow and post it as a review in the MP3 section. I honestly think that if anyone has an issue with their 500's seat, they should contact Cee Bailey. I'm extremely happy with the results!

MP3 400 Seat Horror... (2010 Model)

Shocked and dismayed. I feel suckered.

Got an MP3 400, and on a 25-minute drive home, I realized I could not ride this bike.

The seller knew exactly how bad the seat was as well. That is one main reson they sold it I am pretty sure.

SPECIFICALLY... any suggestions on WHO makes a seat that can actually be sat on for a real ride.

Company...
Link...
Summary...

Any/all info would be much, much appreciated.

I feel duped... big time.

I just want to ask the manufacturer... WTF were you thinking??

Metal fold up chairs are more comfortable.

Thanks for any input.
