Think of you often, Nic, even through we've never met and wish you a steady path to recovery.
My husband went through a series of medical challenges over the past couple of years: shattered the head of the humerus and broke his fibula in a freak, no-speed scooter accident while we were on vacation. Had the first humerus surgery botched and had to go back for revision replacement of the head of the humerus, then back again when the joint dislocated during recovery. After that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, had the prostate removed, then underwent radiation treatment.
(He's fine now. A bit like Monty Python's Black Knight, but fine.)
So there was an extended period in which the requirements for physical, emotional, and logistical support were a central part of each day. During it all, he expressed numerous times how happy he was that I was "willing" to stay with him and take care of him through all of this.
It never entered my head that I would that I would abandon a loved one during a time of need, but clearly some folks just aren't cut out for the long haul. He shared later that years earlier, when he was hospitalized for shingles, his live-in girlfriend at the time couldn't even be bothered to bring a robe from home to the hospital when he asked if she would. She didn't want to take the time out to visit either. (Some girlfriend, and clearly there are lots of reasons she became an ex.)
So the point of the story is that none of us gets any younger and life seldom gets less challenging as we age. We viewed my husband's run of "bad luck" as a sudden, unwelcome preview of old age. But how much better to discover now, while you can pick yourself up and dust yourself off, that your partner didn't fully understand what "for better or for worse" means.
From this thread I have such a strong sense of you as a positive, upbeat, competent, and flexible person. You will prevail and will look back on this as the beginning of a new adventure.
All the best! You have lots of people pulling for you on the extended "Cop-e-cat" team!

Thank you for that. I don't know why or what had made him make his decision and I'm getting to the stage now where I can't keep trying to work it out. According to my good friend Kitty who spent almost as much time with me in hospital as hubby did he really did look after me and cared for me there is no one else and I thought we were happy but he obviously wasn't. I'm still very sad for what should/could have been but slowly moving on. It is hard living in same house but we are civil and once I'm physically better we can sort the next stage out.
All I will say is thank god for my cats and my friends and family I am blessed.

Things still not great but I drove my car unaccompanied for the first time today only done short journeys with someone in the car but managed to drive 15 miles to Kitty's today and back. Let's hope this is the start of my way up. Still feeling physically not well and emotionally fragile but everyday I'm feeling a tiny bit better on both counts. Going into work to see my colleagues for a couple of hours tomorrow. Thrilled that you're making steady progress. Be careful to not over do it. Prayers continue.

Oh hell sweetie. I thought I was about done praying for you, because you were recovering so nicely. I guess I'll keep at it, if you don't mind. Your husband is screwing up big time, letting one like you get away from him. If you were'nt half way around the earth, I'd drop by and give you a hug. Maybe Kitty will see this and do it for me? Take care of your self. I'll be thinking about you.

Hi I'm not doing bad well physically anyway. Went back to Royal London this week they are pleased with progress so far. Back next week to see dental people. Went to GP today signed off for two more weeks then I'm going to go back to work couple of days a week. That will do me good emotionally as I'm going stir crazy in the house which is unhappy right now. Once I'm better and got my strength back physically and emotionally I will be able to get through the next stage of my life. Wish I could fast forward but I can't. Kitty has been fab as have you lot on here. X

Bill X Kitty is away and can't make it, but maybe someone else can offer Nic a pillion ride if she'd like to. Or if Nic can get to the café under her own steam, its hugs all round...

Faith that things will get better.
Strength to get there.
You will come out of this in fantastic shape, Nic, there is no doubt in my mind. Someday, somehow, I'd love to meet you to see your success in getting though all of this. I'm confident that your local supporters will see a new Nic once this is past. Pics please when it happens!

Aw Nic i've been thinking of you and sorry i haven't been on here much (recovering from my new knee) but i am so sorry about your added hurt. 8 years is a long time and while it hurts now i do believe things happen for a reason. You now know how he deals with major life occurrences. You'll find someone better, of that i'm sure. Don't beat yourself up and keep the positive attitude. Know that were rooting for ya my friend.

CopECat,
Haven't checked in in a bit, but glad to hear things are going relatively well.
Obviously lots of internal and external healing to deal with, but hope you can finish healing well, learn from your experiences and look to a brighter future. Glad that MVers can give you support along the way.
If and when you're on the grand tour, would be nice to meet you too.

Hi all my MV friends. Well recovery re injuries is coming along ok going back to work on reduced hours next week. Need quite a bit of dental work doing which will be in the future sometime. On the heart break front my marriage is definitely over I have decided I cannot continue to live in the same house until all the finances etc are sorted so have found myself a rental home which I will hopefully be moving in in next couple of weeks, it's going to be tough living on my own first time ever at 46 and financially it's going to be very hard for sometime but I need to get out for my sanity. A replacement scooter will have to wait but I have put your kind donation in the bank for that day.
