Been receiving some great info from our MV members in regard to a Vietnam scooter tour. This can be done thru a company that specializes in these tours. Or, a private tour guide can be arranged with the participants planning the route. Whichever, we need a minimum of 4, maximum 8 riders. Cost is relatively inexpensive compared to the European tours. Even the US tours.

Take a look at my previuos thread and, if interested, please drop me a note thru our private email.

Vietnam scooter tour

So, all you adventurous types, here's your chance. Looking to do this in January 2014. Plenty of time get a cheap airfare.

Lets do this!

How many mile or hours in the saddle do you think you would do a day ?

Per the VN group tour guides:

"We usually drive for no more than four hours (roughly 120-150 km) per day. We stop often for photos, conversation, leg-stretches, drinks, road-side lunch, and almost anything interesting or unusual."

If we decide to use a personal/private guide, it's totally up to the consensus of the group.

I would totally want to go on one of these - have long talked about doing a trip to VN to explore. Scooters would be the icing on the cake.

BUT.

Can't do January 2014...

Iím still open to this, with a group of fellow MVers (though I have to concede that Iím not up to being the organizer)! If anyone has a contact, or is familiar with the territory, letís start planning for maybe a trip in 2019 or 2020...

Rode there in 2014. Great fun. Get your skills in good shape and lose you riding inhibitions.

I rode around HCM and Hanoi. for a couple days last year. It wasn't too bad - the scoots themselves take some getting used to - they are very different from a Vespa (modern or even non-modern) - the typical southweast asian scoots with skinny tires, etc.

It'll look intimidating and chaotic, but I was pleasantly surprised - people react well to you despite the chaos...just be deliberate and consistent with your riding and direction - people will adapt to you and you to them. Just don't pull anything quick and unexpected - that's when bad things happen!

My dream is to ride up the coast of Vietnam - HCM to Danang to Hanoi, or maybe the other way around.

Attached are a couple pics from last year in Hanoi!

Oh and the food there is incredible - the baguettes were amazing!

Why all the face masks? That alone sends a red flag.

I did it a while back. However i didn't ride my own scooter. Rode in back. Which was a blast. I could take more pics that way. I did the Northern route. Very cheap to travel there. Go for it BOB

Anyone still interested in making this a reality, maybe 2019 or 2020?
