I just got a Vespa 50 and it runs and rides fine. She only has 400 miles on the odometer. But, none of the lights work and there is no battery so it must be running on a coil of the alternator. The on line owners manual shows no battery whatsoever. There is a place for one and 3 wires go to there. I guess I need to buy a small battery 6 volt. By the way it is an 80 model. Any ideas or help please. Thanks Charlie

This thread has been moved to the Not So Modern Forum. That's where the folks who are shifty Vespa enthusiasts tend to hang out, giving you a better shot at a quick answer. NSM is home to all shifty Vespas, regardless of year and model.

Well, I'm by no means very knowledgeable about these beasts yet. Just got myself a 79 50 Special as well.

Don't know if you've seen this

Someone else will come along soon with the right answer, but I'm thinking you don't need the battery unless you have electric start.
Do you have turn indicators?

Tell us the year of the scooter, it will help.

It will need a battery to power most of the lights. The battery you need is most likely a 6N11A-1B (if you have/had turn signals) or possibly a B39-6 (no space for turn signals). We have them if you can't source them locally.

Hey thanks for the reply, I will need the B-39-6 as there are no turn signals. Can you give me a price for the battery and I can pay now with pay-pal if you accept that form of payment. Charlie
