Dumb looking. F's up handling characteristics.

I browse CL and see people selling these retarded looking Busas' and Gixxers, Etc. I am perplexed(but not really). I love alot of these sportbikes, but when I click on a stretched montrosity, it turns my stomach.

Yeah, I know that was grumpish, but I don't see the style.

I am just looking for a nice mid-size sporty and I come across so many of these bikes.

Yup. I deserved that.

Probably meant to keep the front end down under hard acceleration -- at least, that's likely where the idea originated. Might be a styling thing now, like stretched springer front ends or ape-hangers on American cruisers.

Yep. Long swing arms are a drag racing thing. Keeps the front end down and keeps the bike running straight. Definitely a style thing on the street and you won't find them on a motoGP bike. Laughing emoticon

Mmmmmm... I likes me a little stretch in the front end. Laughing emoticon

I'm pretty sure they are for those interested in drag racing; either on the track or light to light. And of course poseurs.

If you own a sportbike in the midwest or Florida, do you really care how fast it corners when you take the onramps onto the freeway? It's definitely a look you see where the world is flat or people can't ride.

They're not what I would choose to ride but a brand new shop opened in our little town this past Saturday. The paint jobs are amazing on the bikes displayed in the windows. I hope the shop makes it and I will make a visit to check it out 8)

What's a stretch sports bike? A bike that's been modified and made longer, or just a sports bike that has a long chassis by design?

Just thinking about the chain slap on this one makes me crindge.

Another thought... you probably have about 330 links of chain there. You're looking at $600 if you buy quality chain every 20K miles. Laughing emoticon

I see them a lot here. As others mentioned, it is kind of an anti-wheelie thing. However, now I think it is just more of a style now as opposed to substance. No different than guys who put 24 inch rims with low profile tires on a Range Rover or a Jeep.

Most the guys I see with these stretched sport bikes can't ride worth a sh*t (at least in the traditional sense when it comes to normal sport bikes). However, I think they are addicted to the straight line acceleration between stop lights more than anything.

Looks ridiculous to me, but each to their own.

I think this falls into the low rider and custom built car category. It's less about functionality and is more about aesthetics. I personally admire the technical skill and thought that goes into these things. I go down to the park when the low riders do their show every summer and I love it. If you have ever spent some time doing body or engine work, these changes aren't easy and in fact, can take a lot of time.

Would I ever ride one of these custom bikes or drive that old low riding Impala? Nah. However, I wouldn't paint a picture that looks like a Picasso either. I can appreciate the effort and the art in something that I really don't enjoy or would do myself.

Back when I was a young punk we used to lengthen the swingarms on old dirt bikes and turn them into pretty good hill climbers. The extra length kept the bike from looping up-and-over quite as soon when charging up a long and increasingly steep hill. But, our bikes looked cool.......

BWAHHHH!!!!!!

OK, I've learned a bit of a lesson that seems to need to be relearned from time to time. To each their own. "If they ain't fucking with you, don't fuck with them".

I have more than my share of habits and tastes that surely are laughable.

Ride on!

Surely the worst sin with that bike is that the chrome-a-like coating on that swingarm just looks incredibly plasticky and cheap. That look isn't to my tastes, but I've got to admire the tinkering skills and persistence of whoever did the work.....EXCEPT when they show a complete lack of aesthetic judgement by having that horrible shiny finish Laughing emoticon

I've got a Japanese scooter mag at home that shows loads of scooters which have been treated to that "stretch" style. It appears to be a really popular look over there, for people who mod their scoots. They tend not to be so keen on shiny plastic finishes, but they do have a taste for awful shiny cushioned seats.
