My MP3 250 battery died, nothing works when ignition is switched on, cannot open the seat as nothing happens when I press the switch. Cannot access battery under seat.
Any tips on opening seat?
Cheers

There is a solution...
Insert key.
Press key in a little further.
Rotate key clockwise.

Or counterclockwise; one way opens the seat, the other way opens the gas cap.

On a 500. On a 250/400 it opens the pet carrier door. After you do that reach feel the cable for the saddle, push it to the left and the seat releases.

I've always wondered if it's really necessary to have the extra complication/cost of remote opening on a seat??
I've had to modify mine as it no longer works so I've installed a pull in the trunk.
In reality the helmet goes in the back and other clothing/helmet goes under the seat so you are going to open them both anyway.
It's not difficult to do is it??

Do a search on this MP3 forum for the Pet Carrier release. Not so sure about the 250, but on my 500 it works like a charm.

When I asked the question "it's not difficult to do is it? " I meant why not just have a lock like bikes used to have.
As these early remote releases seem to fail eventuallyor batteries go if Piaggio had just fitted locks to the seat and rear storage is it really that difficult to open a lock like we used to do or have we all lost the capability and have to resort to electronics??
It would also reduce the price.
Just a thought.

I have seen this sort of post before.
I have a 12V Accessory wired direct to my Battery.
I always assumed I could do the Reverse and Plug in a Battery to the 12V Adapter and it would be enough voltage to open the Seat?

Thanks all for the quick responses!

On the 250 and 400, pushing in the key and turning it opens the gas filler cover and the "trunk".

Reaching in through the trunk, I can feel the latch to the seat, but it won't budge.

Next step?

Next you should take a light, locate the actuation cable and pull it manually.

This has worked with my BV350 when the mechanical release cable was stuck. *
Does the MP3 have an accessory socket that’s accessible with the seat locked?

* This was when the battery had been removed for the winter. I would be more careful if there’s a dead battery still in place: using another battery to open the seat may blow a fuse protecting the accessory socket. Then you’d be up a creek! In this case I would use a battery tender that limits the charging current, instead of a battery.

What exactly did you do? I assume you left the seat unlatched during the winter or did you use something else to release it? I can't get my manual release to unlatch the seat so I am SOL at the moment as I can't get in to install a new battery.

Can you not reach under the side panels to pull on the cable directly?

As I recall, with my BV350 that would be almost impossible.

Well shoot, now it happened to me
2008 mp3 400, please don't question my motivation, this is wives scoot since last year and ice done the crazy grease lube job on front bearings, Sophia is legit.

Brilliantly installed a battery tender connectIon this summer, but not brilliantly left it housed inside the sestcompartment cuz i could not figure out how to feed it thru the small opening.darnit i made the wrong choice and kept my dirtbike on tender until I could get back up to flagstaff with a second tender. Battery died of course.

Must be a problem with my cable, i hear it moving when i push and turn key hard clockwise but it doesn't open latch on helmet holder. Ive tried my son holding the key while i slap and bang on the door, no open.

I cannot see the cable underneath, do see a wiring harness on driver's left with a connection for a blue wire, and could splice in a tender connection to the 6 wire harness? Any other brilliant ideas to access battery enough to charge for electroNic option? Many tenders wont charge a dead battery tho. I think this happened to previous owner, the passenger seat backrest has been pried up, there are 2 bolts there I can remove and try to wedge in there? Gotta be a way...

on the 400's you can access the latch by opening the trunk and reaching in.
