Dear all,

I am happy owner of an LX 150 and I just purchased an LX 50 for my wife so we could cruz together but unfortunately the LX 50 only turned over 2 times since we bought it and that was when we put the new battery in...

Later on that same day after we had lunch i got back to it and now no lights come on when u turn the key and it wont crank or nothing.. The only 2 things that work when u turn the key is the gas gauge and the horn other that that everything else is dead... and i am going crazy troubleshooting as there is not much more that i can check. I have swapped the following parts form my LX 150 to see if this would help but it is still the same..
new battery fully charged
stater relay
starter switch
fuse
white relay located at the nose of the scooter
and I have checked every cable to see that they are not pinched or broken

could this be caused by a bad voltage regulator or CDI that cuts power???

Aloha and welcome to the forum from Hawaii. How old is the 50? Did you check the fuses under the horn cast? They cover your lights. Did you swap out the spark plug? Both easy to do but the people with more knowledge will be on here soon. You might have more than one problem going on. I don't think what i told you will help but it's easy to do while you wait for other answers. Good luck.

There's fuses under the horn cast as well. Doubt that;s it but look in there. 7.5 if i remember correctly. So it's probably a 5. Laughing emoticon Good luck

That's strange my LX 50 has nothing other than that white relay that i already swapped but no luck.. is there any other connections or fuses under the floor board that i might have missed?
i would hate buying a new voltage regulator and a CDI and still have the same problem
thanks!

The head lights only work while running .The break light will work while off.
Test the Cdi with a multi meter.
Does the motor turn over with the starter?
Is kill switch in run position?
Spark plug cap on,wire in cap?

motor and starter are completely dead not even a click.. spark plug looks good only have power in fuel gauge, horn and front 30 amp relay when i turn the key.
I have tried with kill switch on off even dissembled and cleaned it, pressing brakes, light switches, changed battery's both are new sealed and fully changed.
Would you know if a bad CDI or voltage regulator kill power??
thanks!!

Do the brake lights come on when you squeeze the levers?

If the brake lights don't work then the starter relay is locked out. Chase the feed to the brake light switches.

Check out the wiring diagram:

Please anyone any advise I still cant find the problem...
I'm wondering if a bad stator will cause the voltage regulator or the CDI to go bad?

Start with the basics...

Have you got the brake lights working yet? Seriously!

^this - it will not start if it doesn't think the brake is being depressed. No brake light is a bad sign on that front.

If you kick it over, do you get spark? with the key on, it should spark, even if the brake light switches don't work.

Update
I bypassed the voltage regulator and now the lights are working and i even got it to start only one time... so know i know the voltage regulator is bad but...

Now with the lights working it wont crank no more so im guessing the starter or the CDI is bad also and i figure that whatever is at fault shortaged the voltage regulator.

would this be a faulty CDI or a stater?

How did you bypass the regulator? That in itself might have fried the CDI.

based on the voltage regulator diagram and with the regulator removed i connected pin #3 to pin # 1 that feeds current to the lights and starting system when u turn the key.

hope i didn't mess more things up

Oh dear - pin 1 is regulated AC and pin 3 is regulated DC.

Hopefully the fuses will have protected things down the line - but I'm not sure some of the devices will have taken kindly to this.

Check the fuses...

I just had a new charged overnite battery go bad. Might want to check that. Just because they are new doesn't mean they work right.

UPDATE,UPDATE

I thought this might be hepful to someone ealse.

I took the advice form George at scooterpats.com and based on all I had already checked I came to the conclusion that my votage regulator was not sending power to the CDI..

i finaly placed my oder form scooterparts.com "who by the way the best prices and shipping around" and I recived and instaled the new voltage regulator last night and now my lx 50 is up and running.. I can now leave the VW's in the garage till next year's shows and cuse with the wife on the scooters LOL..

Thank you all for your suport!!!

Glad to hear it all worked out well for you and you're up and running. Next stop, big bore kit. And if your wife has trouble putting it on the center stand, a sidestand will solve that.
