This sounds exciting.
If you leave from or finish in or near Washington D.C. I shall meet you.
How about 5 days across the U.S. then 5 weeks back?

It really depends on my mood and what kind of day I've had.
Ideally I'd like to tie up with a manufacturer/dealer for a good old fashioned publicity stunt then later I'll write all about it in Twist and Go Magazine. Failing that I'll finance it myself. Bill xxx .....x ⚠️ Last edited by Bill Dog on UTC; edited 1 time

Washington would be a good place to finish. Roughly half way up the coast and all that.
Thanks Strick. Bill xxx |

only question would be wrist pain - mine was fine coming back form your 3rd, until the services a Cobham. Then pain to home and the following couple of days. |

Thank you, that's very kind.
I plan to attempt two more endurance rides before I attempt this one but you're right I'd much rather bang in the miles on my way to achieve something than stop and point at something of interest. I'm very attracted to the challenge or riding all day and possibly some of the night. At this stage I'm asking various parties if they'd be interested in becoming involved with it from that side of the pond ie locating something for me to ride/ searching for a sponsor with a product or dealership to promote so drop me a pm if this interests you. 700 miles a day coast to coast would be hard. This would

OBVIOUS
1) Put the aux. fuel tank in the step through with a small manually controlled pump. 2) Ride highways East to West in five days for the challenge and then ride West to East in a relaxed three weeks. |

ask
A contact over there asked what would I want to ride given the choice and although a BV makes a lot of sense a GTS would make better PR if you were attempting to promote the product.
A 250 would do or even a 200 with gravity fed auxilary tank on the back which should give me a range of around 300 miles. I'm not sure how you would run a fuel line through the body of the step through if the aux tank was mounted above it ? Failing that I'd just run with a spare tank under the seat which wouldn't be ideal but whatever fits eh ? Granted if a BV (200 -350) came my way I'd jump at the chance as they are more comfortable especially after the 12 hour mark. Even better than that for long distance comfort is the Downtown. I'd need a very hard tyre plus a new belt and maybe some sandwiches. I think that 700 miles is realistic but if I can do that for 5 days in a row I don't know but I'm very willing to find out. I think it's really worth considering.
Plenty of time to finalise the details of it but yeah it's up there with the good ideas. Anyone else ? Bill x |

Bill x OTOH, you would probably not get much manufacturer's support for an MP3 considering their lack of success and continuing interest in the US. |

That's a very good point David.
A dealer/manufacturer wouldn't want to promote a product they didn't sell much of anyway. I was only thinking of my own safety when I suggested that idea. Bill xxx |

What do you think of choices of ride ?
1 GTS300/250/200 2 BV350 3 Something from Taiwan ? 4 Kawasaki J300 The top two are my current favourites as I know and like people who are true enthusiasts of the marque. Also I'd much rather do it on something Italian because there more passion and tradition involved. Bill x |

If I do this, I'm thinking more about 14 days on the Lincoln Highway, experiencing something about the people and the towns. If I'm just gonna fly by, it might as well be in a a jet.

I've thought about meeting lovely MV types along the way but this would only work if I stuck to an agenda.
It would stop me trying to bang in a few extra miles if I felt like it but it would also make me more sensible and regimented. I think it's going to be GTS or a BV. Bill x |

Related but apologies if this is hijacking the thread, are the iron butt rides organised events? Or personal rides ? I saw the iron butt website but it seems to be US only but you have French / UK ones listed Bill, I would love to try to complete one in Europe now my GT200 is reliable once more.

The Ironbutt rides are personal ones but you can send all of your receipts and witness signatures to either the US or UK Ironbutt Association for Certification.
I'll be attempting my 5th and final Ironbutt in May this year in Europe. Route to be confirmed. Bill x |
