I was researching some jalopy forums and decided to have Joe try a simple technique I read about.
Apparently it works well. Even Joe was surprised.

Joe is taking a bunch of photos so I will put together a complete project post. I posted the same thing on Facebook, but I know a few people don't use it.

Looks like it works really well, congratulations. But I think you ought to give credit to Patrick who pointed it out to you almost 3 weeks ago -

Here's a good example of what it can save: https://modernvespa.com/forum/post1437905#1437905 I've been researching rust cleaners for several months, including CLR, so when I saw that link, it was more of a reinforcement for what I was already planning for the paint. But of course, yes... Patrick and the original posters flyngti deserve props. I by no means was trying to diss anyone, it just didn't stick in my mind as a prime motivator. (I've read literally 100s of threads on oxidation removal on paint... and it was that Impala one that stuck with me since its the root reference to so many other threads, in fact it was probably the motivation for Flyngti as well since he refers to car forums). To tell the truth... I sort of wished it had... it would of been a text book example to send to Joe Casola when we were discussing it. p.s. it is the rust on the floor that I am still worried about. We have decided to go the Ospho route. Joe was able to almost miraculously clean the bad rust to bare metal in a tiny spot, but I feel that conversion is probably better as it builds a barrier. Hopefully I will have results by tomorrow or the next day. |

More updates...
The paint is rough, so the bare spots were hit with Rust Converter, but what white is left is golden. Joe will be tackling the dents in the next week, and the engine rebuild is almost finished. |
