Vespa 90 with a polini 115...19 mm carb ...DR 22/63 (2.86)up gear kit...PK clutch cover..Brand new Pk clutch. leo vince pipe
new pressure plate(the one with bearings)..new brass plunger..new wire clip.
plates soaked in oil
New outer and inner cable
The scoot still pulls foward with clutch pulled in.
Sits still at idle and then pulls away if I rev it higher whilst lever pulled in
I tightened the cable until the kick start would not engage and then backed off I until it did.
Did all sorts of adjusting
No joy soooo pulled the clutch out

I used a home made compressor and the plates etc all separate nicely. Then I tried each one in the basket and it doesn't catch on the basket at all...they are best described as snug..not loose however

Could this be the problem ..ie should I file down each finger a bit...how much gap should there be.?

What else can I check..ie what about the brass bush bit inside the basket... if that wears down would it bind on the xmas tree

what say ye

which pressure plate are you using? I know you're using the kind w/ the bearings, but there are at least 2 types.. one has the circular "button" on top that sits higher and the base is more flat and the other has the button that sits more flush with the top of the pressure plate and the base is deeper.

do you have a pic or link to which one you're using..

and does your spider spin freely when it's in there w/ no plates?

I'd check the outside of the clutch spider and make sure it's not bottoming out on the primary basket.

with the clutch unit completely out the clutch basket doesn't seem to spin too freely...in any gear...neutral included.....the inner shaft with the key on it spins all nice

perhaps theres a translation problem

what do you mean by the clutch "spider "as compared to the primary basket.??

New clutch seems to be fine..separating nicely
Basket (where the clutch plate /tabs slide up and down in is all smooth"

Im suspecting something is up with the Xmas tree/clutch cog area

wtf?

Excellent. Thanks. So Im getting closer to the problem..........its not spinning...so whats the fix if the basket is rubbing on the primary?

....and another clue....the first brand new Pk clutch I installed wore down on the back/base of the basket until it broke thru completely and the inner part of the clutch spun so freely I could not tighten the clutch nut.

seems this second new clutch is binding on the primary..and hasn't worn thru yet.

sooo whats the fix????? washer under clutch..but then the key wont fit
WTF

FYI possible fix under way
...may be on to something . The diameter of the back of the PK clutch is too big...and so it is binding on the dish inprimary basket when the nut gets tightened down.
I will have to take a few mm off the out side diameter of the PK basket.
.....progress
at least
thanks Uncle Googs

You can mill the spider so it'll fit like i think you're talking about. Or you can 1st try a shim between the tree and bearing.. But you can't go too thick w/ the shim. .5mm max

Chur bros
Ta.Got the engine out on the bench last night just before Game of thrones at 9.30.
I plan to split her open(the scoot) tonite and will fit a Polini up gear kit and clutch I have in my kak box.

That will give me a scoot whilst I find someone to mill the back of the Pk clutch.
Thanks all

I haven't had to shim the tree but if ya head down this path, you should also shim the kick start quadrant the same amount.
