Greetings from the Florida Panhandle. Let me introduce myself as scooterace ? and thank you for allowing me to join the forum. After owning many bikes. I decided to dip into the Vespa experience ( after about 20 years since my last one). I recently acquired a 2005 px150 with only 500 miles on it; showroom condition. Starts and runs strong with the exception of that pesky problem of failing to return to idle ( high revving ) after a few minutes at WOT. The previous owner had installed a Sito pipe which I removed and replaced the original one. It also had a 95 main jet. Seems like should have been a larger one. I have tightened the carb base bolts and ordered new jets (100 size, maybe should go larger ). I welcome any suggestions and will let you know my outcome. Thanks again for the info on this great forum.

What size carburetor is in that scooter? SI 20/20?
If so, a 95 is definitely too small for a Sito+ |

Thanx guys for quick response. For the record it is a si 20/20. Wil check the slide shortly after try larger jets when they arrive.

Welcome Scooterace
As mentioned above it sounds like your PX is running lean... I would get that 100 main jet installed and see if that improves things. I think 95 is small even on a bog standard 150. |

I took the leap and pulled the carb off of my '05 PX-150 after my experiences with the fail to return to idle and starting problems. I replaced the gaskets and installed new jets; bumping the main jet to #100. Also replaced the float and needle jet. Once everything was back in place, it started promptly and revved quickly; then stalled and wouldn't start. I noticed shortly thereafter that gas was running through the carb onto the floor. I pulled the top off the float chamber which of course was full of gas and replaced the new, ill-fitting black washer (gasket) with the old one and let the gas drain with the pet cock off; after a while it then started promptly. After a couple of short rides it seems to start and perform well, as long as I shut off the petcock after every run; haven't tried WOT yet. I believe the #100 will be better ; its got me thinking of the #107 or #110. I believe, for whatever the reason, that the new float and needle jet are prone to sticking.
Today I did a couple of runs close to WOT and again everything seems to work fine. Apparently the key is : when the key turns off also the petcock. Thanks guys for help and archival info from the forum. |

Welcome Scooterace! I bought a 2005 PX150 myself...just a couple weeks ago.
The PX150 is my favorite bike. I owned one a few years back and never forgot the PX "Magic". Hope you enjoy it. This is an amazing forum with VERY generous members...always willing to lend a hand. |
