On a MP3 /500 with a correctly broken in engine (or over 2000 miles) with a 200 lb ( +/- ) rider, how fast in seconds would an MP3 accelerate to 70 MPH ?.

No idea...
To much traffic to determine that.
I would have to get up at 5AM and get on the Interstate.
Just my gut feel... comparing my 500 and tp my GTS 300.
The 300 would beat it taking off, and then the 500 would say... Bye.. Bye.. further down the road.

I guess I just need to re-phrase the question. IF you know- approx how long in seconds does an MP3 go from 0-70 MPH ???.

According to an article in Cycle World their 2009 MP3 500 did 0 to 60 in 9.7 seconds and did a quarter mile in 17.43 seconds with a top speed of 75.7 miles. Using straight line approximation, I get a predicted 0 to 70 time of 14.62 seconds.

My personal experience on a drag strip is a quarter mile time of around 18.5 seconds with a top speed of 71 MPH, but I had a slow reaction time getting off the line. So, the answer is probably somewhere between 15 and 18.5 seconds...

I have a '16 MP3 500 and was just on the Interstate...I can get up to 70 in about 10 seconds, and get to Stupid Fast not much after that. Highest I've had it is 87, unintentionally.

This is the bike that's going to get me my first riding related speeding ticket.

Reaction time isn't part of the elapsed time on a time slip. ET is only the time from when you break the beam at the starting line and then at the end line. RT doesn't count in qualifying, either. It only matters in eliminations.

These are massively different results. Unless someone is really approximating or relying on inaccurate speedometer readings, something here is really out beyond the ozone layer.

Glad I asked. Looks like some are capable of being much faster than others- (lol).!!!Maybe it's the break in procedure.

Or maybe some responses are colored by optimistic owners, inaccurate measures of speed and time, and some lack of a clear definition of 0-70 (which would obviously mean starting from a complete stop - not the way I usually ride on the Interstate). That is probably why timed quarter miles are not typically done on the honor system.

Hopefully, for all that, you got your answer - or close enough.

Was the OP asking about the acceleration and performance figures for the red or black model of the MP3 500? It makes a difference since we all know which model is fastest...

Both bikes should have had many speeding tickets (I probably deserve one every day that I ride my MP3, honestly) but somehow we don't get speeding tickets on our bikes because policemen 1) are stunned by the extra wheel up front, 2) assume scooters can't possibly go fast enough to break the speed limit, 3) can't see my camouflage 500 (because, you know, it's camouflage!), and 4) get a big smile on their face seeing my wife on her pink 400.

What about the person riding the bike, I would think that would be a variable too... I lost a lot of weight in the past 16 months (126 Pounds went from a 48 waist to a 34 now.), and my MP3/250 goes a whole hell of a lot faster now. The MP3/500, which is New... I can't compare, but its "Scarry Fast" for me...
