Got my shirt! My wife said it's very form fitting while giving me the "Damn that's sexy" look. 😈

How's your Etch A Sketch scooter coming along, Etchkid? Got anything to show us yet?

Yeah, that's gonna be a while. Found some unfinished sketches I decided I better finish before starting anything new. So now it's Elsa and Anna, then Kristoff and Sven, then the Utah state Capitol (all three of those are promised commissions), then the Hulikau cafe, and then the scooter sketch. Then the Bellagio. So looks like I'm booked for the year! I will be at High Rollers on Saturday looking for sketch ideas and shooting photos. In the meantime, here are my two unfinished sketches...

The mind boggles... It must take incredible focus to create accurate lines using only the horizontal and vertical dials, especially as you cannot erase any mistakes.

When you finish a picture do you empty the dust out of the Etch A Sketch to make the image permanent?

Thanks! Yes, the level of focus is intense, so I do it while the kids are asleep. I do empty the dust out and cut all the wires. I actually work with unassembled kits a lot of the time.

? Is it because we got off the scooter topic? This isn't the first post on the thread to do so. I just responded to the OPs question. I'm going to be the first person, as far as I know, to draw Vespas on an Etch A Sketch. What's the problem?

Earlier today there was a spambot posting in dozens of random threads all across MV. There were two spam posts in this thread, that's what Pepy was referring to. Now the spam has been removed and Pepy's comment looks out of place.

We still want to see more Etch a Sketch

Flordian asked if I could help out with a special image to celebrate Snoopy's Modern Vespa Odyssey. The brief: "Basically, Snoopy on a Vespa with an Earth background or something similar."

I'll spare you from my first layout drawing where I drew Snoopy from memory and he was all wonky and drunk and didn't look like Snoopy at all. After that I studied up on actual Schulz cartoons and drew what I think was a pretty good likeness of actual Snoopy. And that's where this montage begins, top left. Before long, the little dude had a bubble helmet and a scooter and was buzzing around the globe to visit all his Vespa pals...

A patch would be lovely, but I'm pretty certain the Snoopy MV Sticker will remain a one-time-only never-to-be-repeated affair.

Everyone who qualifies should sign up for one of those immediately

That's not 100% correct, you can erase, just not selectively!

Richard, thanks for posting the drafts. You took an idea and put it on paper with quite the skill.

And, we all thank you for stepping up and contributing your talent.

A recent sketch and work-in-progress. I've been reading articles about late 1950s scooter rallies and looking at vintage scooter racing pictures. The drawing is heading towards a tribute piece of some kind...

Lately I've been using a neat little sketching app called Mischief (there's a free trail version here: www.madewithmischief.com )
It's a lightweight program for digital sketching and painting and it gets the thumbs up from me. The simplicity of the user interface is a breath of fresh air compared to the complexity of Photoshop. It's designed primarily for use with pressure sensitive graphics tablets but it can be used with a regular computer mouse too.

I used Mischief to make the two drawings above and to make the initial Snoopy sketches upthread.

My wife said the same thing. They were motorbikes in the video, I think. But yeah, must be imprinted on all our memories.

Sorry you've got 1980s Scandi-Pop songs stuck in your head now.

Yep... Can't think of Nashville without thinking of Nashville Cats. Can't think of scooters without thinking "cool cats."

Here's what I've done with the last drawing. A vintage-styled promo flyer, harking back to the early scooter rallies at the Isle of Man.

Scooter rallies were booming in the UK in this period. The 1958 Isle of Man International Motor Scooter Rally was attended by thousands of scooterists from all over the UK and Europe, and the events attracted over 200 registered competitors.

A 24 hour endurance event on a scooter? That'd be a SERIOUS challenge on the bikes of the day, especially for your posterior...
