![]() I've heard the pet carrier space can get pretty hot. Has anyone ever actually measured this? Is it considered safe to carry clothes there? Will my rain suit melt? Planning a longer ride and making decisions on packing.

![]() It's warm but will certainly not melt your rain suit. I've kept all sorts of things in the pet carrier that are not effected by the level of heat it endures.
Judy used to tell the story of how she would carry roasted chickens home from the grocery store in the pet carrier and how warm it kept them. ![]()

![]() Be sure you shave your cats before installing them or they'll overheat.
![]() Seriously, I'd call it "warm" vs. hot. Nothing's ever melted, but things are close to engine heat. Not the smartest place to keep a cold beverage unless it's insulated. Suppose someone should do some research and fit a min/max thermometer in there in the name of science. Will vary a lot depending on ambient temperature too. Don't use it to bring your ice cream home, but preferred for Judy's roast chicken or Chinese take out.... ![]() |

![]() I thought Judy said she put fresh chicken in there, and by the time she got home, it was cooked.

![]() It doesn't get "that" hot. A little warmer than the ambient temp but your clothing won't melt.
Most of the engine heat comes out through the rads and the under-seat storage may warm up a bit but nothing crazy. Abut -20 C here so nothing I'm worrying about for a while... |

![]() By the way, the leg shield "glove box" on a BV350 does get HOT! Hot enough to distort plastic pill bottles, and cause cell phones to shut down (temporarily -- I got lucky I think)!

![]() On modern smallframes (LX,LXS, Primavera, Sprint), I'd be leary of putting personal electronics, compressed gas (CO2 cartridges, aerosol cans), or perishable food items under the seat for more than brief periods, especially in hot weather. With some insulation (an unused jacket or something similar) it's probably ok for longer but the heat will eventually get through.
If you have a topcase or glovebox (the LX S50/125/150 doesn't have the latter) use those instead if possible. |

![]() The pet carrier in the BV350 was quite a bit warmer than my GTS is, and I never had trouble with the works shoes I carried there, or the plastic grocery bag I put the shoes in.
|
![]() I removed the plastic bin and ride around without it. Unless I am running out for groceries or something.
