Hi fellas!

I started ordering a bunch o parts for my P200E rebuild. Lots of Polini goodies for a city grunter! One of the things I picked up was this old used e-start flywheel from feebay. Got it for $5 + $13 shipping...

So I've read that I can do a cheap and easy lightened flywheel mod for my 1980 (non estart) P200 by removing the gear ring from this flywheel and using it...

How do I do that? Do I need to machine it off? Or do I just bang it off with a hammer and chisel??

Thanks so much fellas! I have been reading this site for days on end planning my rebuild and appreciate the knowledge!

I usually drill down between two teeth and then drill the same spot from the side until it meets the other hole I just made. If it doesn't split right then, which it often does, I tap it with a punch and the ring will break and will be easy to take off.

Thanks again for the info all!
I started with a small drill bit between the teeth and realized it wasn't touching the steel because it was as dull as a butter knife! Before I headed off to sharpen it, I was curious to see how the ring reacted if I tapped it from the side like this:

After only a few taps it was already moving. I quickly had it removed by tapping around the whole circumfrence. The ring is still in useable shape even!

I see that the fan blade pattern is quite different than what's on mine (1980 P200E). I'm curious how that'll affect cooling...

I suppose I'll get it tuned with what's on it and then swap this "lightened" flywheel in and see how the CHT reacts... SCOOT ON!
