She was a 2006 with only 14k miles on the clock; a stunner in my view, so I am not surprised that has disappeared.
The battery was disconnected and a thick chain on the back wheel so they must have loaded on a van/lorry right under the council estate cameras I live in.

I had to call police investigation unit twice, to plea for them to score the video footage as they say that they do not have workforce.
I might not see her again but I want them to be prosecuted as they feed a market of cheap parts and a supply for jewellery shops' getaway bikes..

So sorry to hear about this Eurostyler. I'll be checking Gumtree and ebay for your bits. Seems like a professional job. What part of London was it stolen from? Any distinguishing features we should look out for?
Hope the insurance pans out nicely.

So sorry to hear this.
It feels so frustrating to frequently hear these news from London.

I wish someone would come up with an innovative dohickey to give better protection to Vespas out there.

I'm gutted for you. That was a lovely looking machine. And it just, plain sucks that it's fallen into the hands of the thieving scum.

Why was the battery disconnected?

Thanks guys!

Sooner or later will be on gumtree or ebay for sure

The battery was disconnected because I was away for a business trip.
My neighbors had seen her only a few days before my comeback..

it must have been a pro job but why on a 2006 bike?!

There's a crazy amount of parts on ebay at the moment.

I remember looking for a replacement exhaust a few years ago and there were a couple in the space of a month. There are about 10 used exhausts on there at the moment and tons of other stuff.

It wouldn't be hard for the police to pay a visit to some of these big parts sellers. I'd bet they'd fine stolen bikes being stripped.

I hate people who steal. So sorry. That was a beautiful scooter. It's sad that you guys can't have a Vespa over there. I believe in Karma but it takes to long to get them most times. Real hesitant to buy any parts off of Ebay because of bikes being stolen. Will you get another one?

I'm so sorry

almost certainly not a professional job and probably no van involved either. They stole it because Vespas are highly marketable at the moment and also incredibly easy to steal. If you had less than a 16mm-link chain on it then the timeframe was probably something like this:
1. time to cut chain with 5' boltcroppers - 1 minute
2. time to break steering lock - 30 seconds
3. time for toerag to climb aboard your lovely scooter, with his mate riding behind him on another scooter 'ped pushing' (i.e. toerag on powered scooter puts foot on cowl of stolen scooter and simply pushes it along with his foot).

then they either swap out the immobiliser and ride it around doing crimes on it, or they sell it on.

give it about 18 months at this rate and it will be easy for the police to catch the criminals - they'll be the only ones in London riding Vespas

Yes, sad. I agree, vintage red is a rare beauty. So sorry for your loss. Not sure how to counter this crime spree when the cops don't jump into it.

Here in Alabama thieves don't seem to care about scooters. Also, the cops have access to so many traffic cameras, they have actually driven down car thefts. Or so our politicians claim...

Was the cut chain still left at the scene? If not the whole scooter was probably lifted into a van which is why I called it a professional job. I still think it was lifted into a van rather than stolen using the breaking the steering lock method

There were no chain bits left at the scene.

My borough is Wandsworth and I was told by the officers that has become the worst neighborhood for our two-wheels.

watching a police programme last night

bloke was arrested at home charges where robbery x2 unlawful fire arm(not getting into that ) and intimidating a witness

he was a right cocky git because he didn't think they had anything on him

they had cctv footage the girl that told him where the car and money where was his missus and he was arrested wearing the one blokes watch which had been nicked in one of the robbery's and gun was in his house

in the end he got 5 and a half years and the intimidating the witness case was dropped even though he was named on the emergency call to the police apparently there was not enough evidence

the cps(crown prosecution service) wanted to let him out on bail even though the police officer said the bloke would go and hurt the witnesses

so its not just the polices fault over here the cps wont take cases they may lose to court

I concur andyscooter. Not police fault. CPS will not prosecute unless they are happy they will get a 100% conviction at court. (dealt with them for over 20 years)Why? Well if they don't, the crook gets handsomely rewarded lots of money. That's why Blighty is f......

I tend to agree that the UK is being crippled by PC and weak government. The average hard working man or woman's opinion seem to count for nothing.

Its a strange one for me.
It used to be that certain crimes and miscarriages of justice were accepted or ignored by society. Once we rightly stood up against this, the authorities had to be certain about securing convictions.
In itself this isn't a bad thing.

I hope this isn't breaking any guidelines-I do not wish to annoy anyone on here. I suppose I'm just noting the irony of it all.

Once again I hope this particular case of scrottery is resolved satisfactorily.

Insurance payout, I have a question or two
So, finally it comes the misery time to discuss the value of your cherished vehicle.
All that little fixes and the WD40 to polish the chromes during those gone mornings wont amount to nothing

1-The underwriters recognized the pristine conditions of my 2006 vintage red and the low mileage (less than 14,000)
2-Vespa was insured for £1800 and all the accessories and trims considered (matching top box, windscreen, chrome bars, indicators buzzer)
3-When I was floored by a taxi the repair where executed by a body work specialist checking all the relevant alignment point and we were given a green light to continue

Now take a £300 excess off..
Of course I am not happy with a market value of £1500, hence sliced to £1200.
Reasons given are that a dealer will always sell the bike at an higher price and that as good as it was, the fact that was a cat C will depreciate the bike in their eyes..!

I still have the chance to object (can I use this word?) and send them 4 examples of trading with photos ..
What is your mind and experience on this dear fellows?

Thanks
Ant

Try and find those 4 examples and send to them. Then buy a GT200 which will cost around £1200 then spend the rest of the cash on an alarmed disk lock, anti-pinch pin etc and cross your fingers or just get a geared bike that's less appealing to thieves (CB500, NC700X etc).

In June 2015 my insurance company gave me £1450 for a tatty 2009 30000 mile GTS250 after I got rear ended and they declared it a Cat D write off.

I also got to keep the wreck which I then sold for £500.

I know its not helpful now but if it was a Cat-C write off that means "The vehicle is repairable but the costs exceed the vehicle’s value". You should have asked for cash rather than repair after the accident, and bought a replacement that wasn't Cat-C as it would be worth more in the eyes of your insurance company now.

nicked
Sorry about the nicked scoot... great colour too. I would have thought by now the cops would know who in their area was on the nick..
try putting an ad on Gumtree or similar... asking for a top case in your colour in your area... see who turns up... Maybe a good tip on something like this , best to put a secret mark on the base, or maybe the inside helmet carrier.. Take a pic and keep it for future reference.
I don't know if they are stolen for parts... I couldn't find parts lately for an ET4... So maybe the whole bikes are exported... If so where too?
I'll keep a look out for your ride... I'm up in Kensal Gree, and get around west London a lot.

Stolen baby
So sorry about the stolen baby, she was a beauty. I have the only Vespa in town, small town in central IL where 'everyone' wants a Harley. Here it's trucks/lorrys that get 'nicked' more than scooters or motorcycles, and bicycles. It would be great if it turned up and you got it back.

This may not be available in the UK, but what with the internet, international shipping, etc....http://www.thetrackr.com/bravo

And although not a big supporter of vigilantism, if one were to find the wanker(s) who stole a scoot, and since the police don't seem to care....

Btw, I have no connection with this product. Just sayin'.

It's an interesting idea. It's small, the batteries are supposed to last for a year and it's quite cheap. The big downside is you're dependant on other people nearby having the tracker app on their phones for it to work. It might work if the bike was left in central London but if it's left in a lockup on some dodgy estate then you'd probably never get an alert.

Hey, if nothing else, one might get the satisfaction of helping find someone else's stolen scooter, even if you don't find your own.
