P4PP.
So what's the budget for that motor?

Funny how often this question gets asked. I keep hoping someday someone will say "My budget is unlimited. I'm looking to hot rod it, make it run like a freaking banshee, totally unreasonable power, and be completely unreliable."

I'm now up to 1 and 3/4 running and registered scooters.
3 and 1/4 to go. I kinda feel like buying a PX that needed under 40 minutes work to be registerable was cheating somehow. |

I assume it's a Pinasco case... is it the reed one? Or is yours like the pictures with carb on the cylinder? Should be nice. |

I'm in the states currently, so the Rally is on hold. After pricing up a SIP fork, its likely I'll stick with modifying my PX one. I want to use a radial caliper now, seeing the pad differences between the two!

They are certainly nice. Put your money towards a stock-looking disc hub from LTH or Scooter and Service. Hope you read the stuff from Charlieman and Pheasant Plucker, there's some good info there.

I want to use a radial caliper now, seeing the pad differences between the two! I reckon the PX fork keeps the alignment whereas the PK fork will cause a small leftward mis-alignment (4mm). The pro to the PK fork is it doesn't need modification... And supposedly 4mm doesn't matter. If cutting the PX fork (which it sound like you are planning) then figure out the shock length you want... and work back to the swing arm angle aiming for ~110deg. So the shorter the shock, the more you need to cut. The more you cut, the lower the front... The S&S forks are PX based and 'superlow' available. They have a distinct look when you cut them that short - sacks the wheel into the hub, brings the wheel closer to the leg shield. Regarding the radial caliper axel seating mount: AF Parts and Pinasco seem to be the main ones (haven't seen other options?). Both are $$$. AF Parts offer more options, and that includes speedo sensing - worth figuring out how you will run your speedo before committing. Finally, as everyone says - modifying the guard is the hardest part. Now go open that damn box! Bigger than xmas... And start a thread ffs. Sharing is caring. |

Skarajew - starting on page 3 (there are allota pages...) Vintage vespa with sidecar (**Now In Technicolor ! **) (Page 3)
In addition to Pheas's thorough rundown: - PX will likely give you a closer fit on gap from mudguard to horncast. - There are lots of tricks to keeping shock travel - but using less space between shock tower and trailing arm. Have a look at my thread. - Agreed with Pheas's approach. Would add: If you are going to cut a PX, first get your parts and fit it. Do all the work to shorten the shock area and fit the shock I just noted - if you plan to do that. Then figure the amount you will cut the fork. I was able to take a significant (25mm?) amount out of the SIP conversion fork. - Decide what master cal/ what means to attach you will use. Lots of discussion on that too. I have a BeedSpeed conversion part - no weld - PM me while in states if you want it - just a paper weight on my desk otherwise. |

ebeth, you never cease to amaze me. It's one thing to be able to assemble a scooter from parts, but to be able to assemble parts from even smaller parts is even better
Personally, I was on vacation this week and slipped on a flight of steps (wet, mossy, pressure treated lumber), then slid the rest of the way down to a landing. I gimped my way through the rest of the week, but after I got home yesterday, I went to the doctor this morning. Diagnosis is a torn hamstring and the biggest, ugliest bruise I've ever had in my life. Hurts like a bitch and is probably going to keep me away from Amerivespa. Doh! On the bright side, I got my boat project finished just in time for the trip, so I was able to get on the water every day. Power is a 20HP electric outboard, 100AH 48V LiFEPO4 battery bank. I wish the battery bank was a little bit bigger, but that's 132lbs of batteries and it's only a 14'-6" runabout. On the water
Looking a little bit better

Nice job on the boat Chandlerman. Hope you get well soon, too.
Finally got the sidecar repaired and installed today. Took it around several blocks and now I understand you drive a sidecar and ride a bike. It would be difficult if this was my only scooter. Drove my daughter on it and she loves the sidecar so the time and effort was worth it. I hope all had a great weekend.

Chandlerman - that musta felt mighty good cruising at sunset like that - killer photo - love the before and after too.
Rowdy. Awesome! Know its a fixed frame - but if it feels like you have to pull or push on the handlebars all the time (not just getting on or off the throttle) - a touch of lean out for the bike &/or additional toe in for the side car wheel can make a world of difference (shim?) and increase riding enjoyment 100 fold. Great looking toys you guys. |

Right.
I was suggesting some crafty shimming/slotting might pay surprising dividends even on a fixed frame. No matter. Bike looks great / and sounds like it's a hit at home. Congrats. |
