I've been waiting for a long time for this news. Finlay it's possible to get a kevlar belt for the GT 200. The belt is produced by Polini, and I know it is said that Polini makes the best kevlar belts. Product no. 248.052

Where to get it in US?
That is good news. I was disappointed that I couldn't find one when my belt needed replacing last year. Does anyone know where we can buy these in the US (hello, Motorsport??)?

I'm familiar with Kevlar from the standpoint that it's used in bullet proof vests, but I wasn't aware that it was a desirable material for a scooter belt (I guess that would make sense, though). Would this be something that would fit on a GTS as well?

None of my distributors seem to have this. Give it a couple weeks, and I'll try and find some other sources.

I'm with you Chuck, Bullets vs Kevlar-Good. Knives vs Kevlar-Not so good. Other aplications? I know they are using it in Kayak hulls. But I also know that heat and moisture cause it to deteriorate. I think I would want to see some reviews before I buy.

Yamaha dealer advised against Kevlar on my old Vino. Ditto from the local non-Vespa scooter dealer: They said not to use it on a Vino, that Kevlar belts tend to shred easily (instead of breaking clean or wearing thin) and make a big mess in the belt case when it happens, causing other damage.

Now I don't know WHAT to think. Any experienced mechanics able to provide more info about Kevlar belts?

So do you recommend Kevlar belts over the standar belts then?

kevlar belts
Go bobby!
We haven't seen a broken kevlar belt yet. When we do the performance work to the 50cc bikes, they snap stock belts really quickly. When we put the kevlar belts in, they last forever.

Yup, that qualifies as a review in my book.

I worked for years with helmets for Apache helicopters. Kevlar shells with styrophome liners. That's all they were. I saw one where a blade came through the cockpit and hit the co-pilot across the side of the head. He walked away. 'damn good material that Kevlar!

It's not only that the kevlar belts are stronger, but they don't stretch/flex as much as the standard belts. That would make the scooter a bit more responsive, I guess. Especially with parts like the Malossi Multivar and Delta Clutch mounted on. Malossi recommends using a kevlar belt with those parts.
