just an update on the new speedo .. the water temp bars on the left hand side don't seem to work ... checked the wiring etc etc .. fuel gauge bars work fine everything else seems good lights etc .. just the water temp bars now got in touch with SIP and they emailed me with ... and I quote

Hi Simon,

the water temperature is measured over the wiring loom.
Thereīs no connection to the settings, we think thereīs a problem with your bike.

Is there a possibility that you send us a dropbox link with a video what happens?
That would be great.

And please explain the problem in details again, itīs easier to help for us then.

Have a nice day.

Kind regards,

so sent them a picture of the bars not even coming on ... and wait to here what there idea are ...

ive checked the temp sender on the bike ... the cooling fan cuts in when its it getting hot so I cant see how it is a problem with the bike .
now I know theres no temp gauge on the new vespa .... but it still checks its temp because of a warning light on the old speedo face ...
joys of something new ...

just wanted to know if anyone else has one on their ABS GtS and does your temp bars work ok

Mine works fine. The only issue I have is with the optional temperature sensor, I cant get the spark plug back on with the adapter ring fitted.

mines a 2016 abs ... bike ... but it says nothing in the instruction booklet about the water temp bars on an ABS bike do not work, to be honest this is the only reason I got this because there is no water temp gauge on the new bikes ... and SIP seem to say they do work because the cooling temp is still in the loom or the overheat warning light will not come on ... electric fan comes on all ok

all a bit strange I await to hear what they say ...

Hi
i am not familiar with the ABS version of the gts but if the bike has no temp gauge from the factory then i am certain piaggio have not fitted the temp sender in the cylinder head , this will be the reason there are no bars illuminated whatsoever on the dial.
There will be a temperature switch for the fan but this will be a 3 wire sensor triggering the fan first then at a higher temperature triggering the over heat light.
Look at your cylinder head for a blanking plug.
Cheers Andy

i had a feeling that was going to be the case ... thought there would be a note in the instruction booklet saying the temp bars on the ABS version will not work ...

will have to wire one in one day ...

thanks again

no wire required
Hi buddy,
you have missed what i was trying to explain, buy yourself a temp sender unit, undo the blank out of the cylinder head then bolt the sender into the the head, trace the loom wires around that area locate the sender wire (which will be taped up in the loom with the correct spade end attached) attach to the sender unit you have just installed and a voila working temperature gauge
cheers Andy

and this is the only one I found on a parts web site that fits in the head ... it fits all the range from 2008 - 2016 .... unless I can find the wire colour that goes to the head set ...

all a bit strange ...

will find out what sip say they must have put it on a 16 plate scoot

they have changed the wireing
hi buddy,
that is where there is normally a one spade wire sensor, the two wire explains the two stage switch that i posted in my first explanation.
you will need to buy a thermal housing like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-Water-Temp-Temperature-Joint-Pipe-Sensor-Gauge-Radiator-Hose-Adapter-32mm-/401228320012?hash=item5d6b124d0c:g:JZcAAOSwXeJXdiX~
splice it into the return hose under the floor board connect just one wire to the SIP gauge then you are good to go, an easy solution
Cheers Andy.

going to give that a go over the next coupe of weeks ... my head has blown up lol

thanks again for your help mate I'm not that brill with electrics ...

simples
looks like a piece of piss mate, the second connector block you have on the SIP loom is for a gts 250 / 300 non abs, the sender wire you need to connect will be the only wire with a zero continuity output as there is nothing there, the loose wires are for ancillary optional extras only.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy
Andy.

morning Andy

I'm going to run this with you ... if I sound like a knobhead then tell me lol

on the older 300 there are three connections into the speedo head on connector B there is the Green/Yellow wire that should be the water temp sender to the gauge in the speedo ..
now stay with me on this one
as there are only two sensors for the water temp a coolant temp and a electric fan switch and as I have the standard temp sender in the head can I pump into the G/Y wire from that and into the wire in the head witch looks likes its there but not connected ..

just a thought ... ???

like I say if am out of it ... then shoot me down lol

have a tinker you cannot do any harm as the sensor wires are all - polarity the only + polarity is in the actual display.
so go on have a tinker
Cheers Andy.

found the starting point the engine senor on the head has on two wire coming out of it .... missing the yellow/Green ... but now I need to find the input to the square connector for the speedo unit ... what I might do is to buy the early sip connector and find the coloured wire that is the temp bars ...

all good fun

Hi buddy,

However, after install the speed meter with the Koso speed sensor SA07, all function can be display except the speed cannot be show correctly, the speed up from 20 to 70 in second, when keeping speed at 70 the speed will suddenly drop to 40.
Please advise what I did wrong on the installation process and how to solve it.

Thank you

They offer it for the 250 as well. It's a different part number, but that might be the wiring harness they include.

I have that exact same problem as you, The sensor ring that goes over the spark plug blocks access tp the spark plug hole on the cylinder, plus the fins get in the way... Good idea, poorly executed, shame on you SIP!
