Change in plans for me too.

But Sam and I are still coming.

The change is the big space between Florida and Chicago will be traversed by airplane instead of Rocket.

Should be in Rockland Center by Noon Friday.

Excellent! Was worried about you, hurricane and all. Glad you can still make it.
We'll just have to hear harrowing air travel experiences instead of cross-country scooter adventures.

BTW, it's "Richland." Don't want you getting lost.

It didn't look right so I looked it up.
Still got it wrong.

Mine is going fast.

Trying to avoid a harrowing air experience by flying Southwest non stop both ways to and from Chicago.

We are going to ROCKbridge on Friday, so if you got there by mistake.....

Hope it's a good flight.

You probably have noticed the nickname of the hotel is The White House.

God help us.

I am still getting a big ride in this month.

Tomorrow I am riding Rocket up to the Fall Gathering in Blairsville, GA.

Probably around a 1000 miles round trip.

Just couldn't take the extra week to ride from there to Wisconscoot and back to Florida.

Wisconscoot 2017 Attendance
Dave (Ride Leader)

I hope it is okay. Werner Koehler (Prior Wisconscoot attendee)
would like to join the ride. He will be rooming with me - so does
not need a reservation. I sort of left him out of the loop because
he was avoiding long rides - I was wrong. Vital statistics:

Werner Koehler
Piaggo MP3 400
Email: werkoe@outlook.com
Cell: (612) 743-7050

Again, sorry for the late notice. Werner will be joining Bruce Johnson
and myself coming down Thursday. Kraig Jones is arriving Friday
morning.

Weather for Wisconscoot 2017 Richland Center Wisc
Dave and Robert,

We are predicted to get a pretty good break on the Weather Forecast for
your great scooter rally. My crew coming in from Minnesota on Thursday
may get wet as we approach Richland Center in the afternoon. The
normal ride Friday to Sunday looks marvelous.

9/22 - Friday Sunny 89 Degrees
9/23 - Saturday Mix Sun/Clouds 89 Degrees
9/24 - Sunday Mix Sun/Clouds 83 Degrees

I know the Weather in the Midwest can change fast - but I like this
forecast.

See you soon, Yahoo

Getting down to it and Ridewithgps
Okay, just a couple of days away. I'd been frustrated with route planning software, especially getting it to my phone. Oakwoodjoe suggested Ride With GPS. I finally took his advice. I can now use my phone to navigate (good-bye, paper and masking tape!) and can download my maps, as well as share them. The basic app is free, but I had to burrow into my wallet for $6 for a month of membership to create the maps.

What I'm curious about is whether anyone with the basic app can see them. I'm dubious (how are they to make money after all?), but if anyone wants to try, they can sign up and check it out. Nice option to follow the ride as it unfolds, especially if you get lost.

ridewithgps.com is the link.

For last minute communication, such as late arrivals, etc you can call or text me up to the ride departure, and expecting you can reach me on my groovy new Sena during the ride. There's a pretty useful locator app that I've used that can let anyone I send the link to to locate me over a limited time period. If you're likely to be arriving late for any reason (or find out at the last minute), hoping that the app would be of use. We missed our intended rendezvous with Bill and Sam two years ago, which this might have helped remedy as well. The other, more fallible option is to give out a rest stop that we'd (hopefully) be at to catch up.

Looks like awesome weather, if perhaps a bit warm. May need to throw in an ice cream break.

So, I'm packing today to leave bright and early in the morning. If there's space, I plan to camp at the Richland County Fairgrounds. If not, I'll go try a few other places (Alana Springs Campground, Pier County Park, or one of the other places listed on the Fair web page, https://fair.co.richland.wi.us/lodging/)

Is the plan still to meet for lunch about noon at the hotel and leave for the ride at 1 PM?

Yep. Some of the people may be arriving close to 1, but lunch is at the Country Kitchen at the hotel, and we're leaving from the parking lot there.

Have a good ride up!

I'm home safe and sound. Glad to see all of you again (or for the first time, as the case may be...)

So, I got home in time to open up my camping gear to dry, grab my tuba and head to the German band rehearsal. I got there, only to find out that pretty much everyone else wasn't going to be able to be there and that it was cancelled

Sam and I rolled into Chicago at 4:30.
He rode the Grom the first 80 miles while I rode his Suzuki DR
Then we switched after lunch.

Wisconscoot was a great rally with fun rides and friendly hospitality.
Plus, I got to spend time with Sam.
Another wonderful weekend for me.

Special thanks to Robert and Nora for loaning me the GTS. It is a fine scooter.
Both have become good friends through Wisconscoot.
And to Dave for the planning and conversation..
And everyone for letting us join in.
Bill

Yep, and it was pretty cool. But if I'd known I didn't need to get back by 3, I could have chosen a different route home or gone over to Baraboo to see my cousin and meet his new son...

Anyway, I'll also give props to Dave for all his work planning rides, breaks and meals. Even if he didn't make it out to pre-ride them and we encountered gravel each day. (On the other hand, on some of those roads, even if they HAD been pre-ridden, I think they still might have dropped new gravel on them within the last couple weeks...)

Glad you all enjoyed it. We lucked out with the weather. Not quite so good with the machines, but could have been worse. At least we all stayed upright for the first time.

Great bunch of riders IMHO, good to have the new additions joining us!

I went a bit over 500 miles for the weekend, roughly half of that was the rides. Trip back went pretty smoothly, home by 3 with a break for coffee and a bite...

Next year? Hmmm..

Great Ride, Great People
Dave,

Thanks for the adventure. It was 200 miles back to the Twin Cities from
Richland Center. Who would have thought we would have 90 degree heat
in late September - much better than rain and cold.

I appreciate the work that goes into putting this super event together.
The hills and valleys, Amish Horse Carts on the road, and sweeping
roads in farm country were amazing. This South West Wisconsin area
is a jewel for two wheeled riding.

I am fighting with my photo program, but, should have some photos
posted soon. I have great shots of all you rascals.

Thanks, Mark. It's a possibility. If you want to send me some roads, I'm all ears. Still far from thinking of next year. Cabin fever changes all that.

BTW, you'd better hope Russ comes again with his bugle or we'll be pressing you to ride up with your tuba.

Piccies, day 1
For the first time, I decided to ride over to the start. A good part of the Minneapolis (Minn-Max) crew were already there, with gitder, MadisonSully and the Leutholds riding up at the same time. Would have been nice to meet up on the way, but coordinating that seemed too complicated. Stopped by a round red barn converted to a restaurant at the 2/3 way point to take a glamor shot, when I heard a distinctive (non-scooter) exhaust. Looked up just in time to see Sam, Bill Leuthold's son on his dual sport accompanied by two scooters...Bill and MadisonSully. Muttered "bastards!" under my breath, geared up rapidly and headed out WOT for the chase. Took a while to catch up, but managed, and rode the rest of the way together.

Always nice to pull up to a hotel with scooters parked there. We added ours, wmak and Russ Bees shortly after. Luckyscroller and Oakwood Joe as well. Not sure who's idea it was to name a Ramada the White House, but it added a bit of weird flair.

Great weather, actually hot for Fall in Wisconsin, but a lot better than cold rain.
Grabbed lunch and headed out. 90+ mile afternoon of great riding. The area is named the Driftless Area due to missing the 4 waves of glaciation that flattened the rest of the state in the Ice Age. The Ocooch Mountains are a few billion years old, a bit worse for the wear, but great terrain for riding. I'd been complaining the rest of the year about bad roads, but they were in great shape for the most part. We did find gravel, but newly graded and easy to ride, the only marks being Amish buggy wheel tracks.

The ride was marred by Dale's (luckyscroller) belt deciding to disintegrate, but fortunately a short push from a convenience store and one of our stops. Other than that, a great day.

Very nice pics, Dave. I think I may have to take that pic of me riding the duck to use as a profile pic on Facetube or something...

Thank you Dave for all your work involved in planning this event. Although my weekend took a disappointing turn about 80 miles into the Friday ride, I really enjoyed the whole weekend. Such a great group of folks to go along with the great scootering territory, and to top that off, you ordered about the best weather you could have, especially for this time of the year!
My belt did disintegrate, but that's nobody's fault but my own, I should have checked that out a couple thousand miles ago, but thankfully it gave out at a pretty decent place, not to far from the hotel, and I sure am glad it didn't break on me a couple weeks ago when I was on my scooter trip around Lake Michigan, not THAT would have really been inconvenient! On the plus side though, following the big Saturday ride in the truck I was able to make myself useful when Wmak was getting lonely riding, and wanted to sit in the truck with me for the last half of the ride. Hopefully its a minor glitch with his machine and his will be on the road again soon.
And before I fail to mention, Nora , thank you for your time and talents, putting together a nice patch to commemorate the ride, it will proudly be displayed on jacket, and I hope to add many more Wisconscoot patches in the coming years!
Thanks everyone for a great weekend!

PS: Dave... the gravel roads didn't seem very bad to me, both when on my scooter, and the following day in the truck, I think you done great!

PPS: Dave, you had my humility photo pushing my disabled machine, but why not share your Saturday Go-Pro camera action ?
