It has been that way since I got it, I assumed thats how it is calibrated.
Im waiting for spring (has to get warm enough to work on the sidewalk) as right now my speedo and odometer aren't working, I am guessing the cable snapped and or is dislodged. |

Think their all off about 5mph. I wouldn't worry about it. Not good to take the headset off and on just to throw a little dab dielectric grease on it. Those tabs on the headset are fragile. Once they break you can't fix them. Juet one of the many "quirks" with our beloved Vespa's. No matter what you do the speedo will be off.

Haha, mine (2004 GT) sits at 20mph half the time I am at stoplights.
I have checked my moving speedo accuracy against GPS - it ranges between 7-10 mph off for me depending on speed. I have taken to attaching my phone to my dash to use as a reliable speedo. I must say, Piaggio did not do a good job on these in my opinion. I know speedos can be affected by lots of stuff, but Vespa ones seem to be some of the worst around. a few mph off is one thing, but 10 mph off is a bit ridiculous. And for all those that would say i should not worry about my speed so much and worry more about keeping up with traffic - I would say that I spend a decent amount of time riding on roads with little traffic (out in the hills) and would like to know that I am not exceeding legal speed limits. |

I know that they sit around 5 mph when off because by law they cant show that they are going slower than they actually are.
So at slow speeds (below 10 mph) its really hard to accurately show your speed, so their fix is to rest the speedo at 5 mph. |
