While I was riding in 28 degree weather today with my hands freezing dispite some nice gloves... I was thinking "What do I do this summer?"

I assume that between wind and road dirt etc I'd be a heck of a lot more comfortable with some sort of glove. But in summer what have you experienced as the best way to go? Fingered, leather, mesh, padded palms, is there something breathable with some sort of protective qualities? Can I find something that doesn't make me look like I'm trying to be too cool???

Those of you who've put some serious summer miles on, what are your favorites?

Well, I could recommend a pair of Ventor Gloves from Metroscoot.com (shameless plug for Bradford ). Seriously though, they are made by Olympia and I think they run about $40.00. I REALLY like mine.

I bought a pair of Aerostitch Elkskin Ropers some time ago. It took a little getting used to the "windshield wiper" sewn into the seam of the thumb, but they are very comfortable. I understand they last a long long time. Mine are natural tan, as the black ones tend to bleed when they are wet.

Yes, the wiper does work....came in handy more than once.

I actually wear a pair of the "mechanics" https://www.mechanix.com/mw04/ gloves. Fairly cheap, leather palms, mesh on back of hand. I like them very comfortable. I just bought a pair of First Gear Mojave http://www.firstgear-usa.com/fgweb.nsf/Products/B4FE79E7BD32E355862571250061BBF3?opendocument I will try these and see. The first time I wore them did not like as much as the mechanic style.

Summer weight is an issue. I also have the "roper" style glove good for cooler mornings. The mesh is better in the true heat. Not as much protection as others but better than no glove, Beale.

I've got these for the cold weather. My paws got a little cold Friday afternoon, after 90 minutes @ 38°

For the warmer weather, these are what I've got. They were OK @ 65°, too.

I think they'll be OK @ 90°, though. They are quite perforated.

For summer I like the mesh Triumph Raptors.

[edit] Cindy, I took the liberty of scaling those down just a bit!

Ooops, mine are the gray and black ones, but they are not nearly that large in real life!

I have the Tour Master Gel Cruiser. Very comfortable in last fall's 70-80F weather. There is mesh between the fingers, but the backs are protected. Yet they don't look like BMX gloves. About $28 at the local shop.

Mountain bike gloves for summer
I ride an MTB when I'm not on my Scoot. I use my Kona full finger cycle gloves on the Scoot. Thy are really comfy, have full leather palms and fingers nut no armour on the back - I love 'em I will switch to something more insulated this winter. We are just starting Autumn (Fall) now and there has been a couple of chilly mornings recently but still in the mid 20s (Centigrade) during the day - nice.

All my gloves are Tour master.

They fit my hand shape wonderfully.

I have 4 pair.....warm.......cool....cold.....and brass monkey.

Buy what fits your hand, Tourmaster gloves spoil my fingers....and I like it!

In city riding with plenty of stops (there are lights every 200 yards on my 12 mile commute!) just remember there is a big hot headlight right in front of your hands. My hands start to feel the chill on the last third on the mornings where it is about freezing, and five seconds on the headlight at every red light warms them nicely!

I've had a couple of different mesh-backed gloves for warmer weather. Air flow + protection.
