It looks like Yamaha's going back to the 3 wheel well at the motorcycle shows this fall/winter again. So, what do you think the chances are that this one is actually going to reach the market?

Damn, you beat me to it! I saw it when I was at work and was going to post it when I got home and completely spaced.

I'm really excited about this. I can understand OAD's skepticism, but I feel kinda good about this. The fact that it looks like a slight refinement of the MWT-9 they showed off a couple years ago suggests to me that they're kinda serious about it this time. I'll be watching it closely, I'd love to graduate up to one of these.

And can we just take a moment to talk about how batcrap insane the mishmash concept that is the announcement trailer is? I couldn't stop laughing up until they showed the actual bike.

Having been riding a Fuoco for almost a decade I'm interested in the concept, but the front end looks a bit too massive for my taste. Still the proof of the pudding....

May not be all that quick though; did anyone else notice that at 1.25 of the video the speedo appeared to show '43'? K's or Miles isn't clear but it's not as quick as it appears on screen IMHO

I'm curious but might find it's weight a real turnoff. Sigh emoticon Now that I see it only has a side stand, not interested in it any more. If any leaning trike doesn't have a lock upright feature comparable to the MP3s, I'm not interested in it.

Going from 30.5" to 34.8" wide isn't a deal breaker to me, but the lack of a center stand is a little concerning. I can only assume the front fork locks, but I need a reliable fallback in case that fails.

Also, the Niken is already listed on the Yamaha Motorsports website with a signup to test drive when they come. It looks like they're pretty committed at this point to both releasing it and bringing it stateside.

I saw the tri-city on the street, and thought it had a tilt lock, then I saw one here and took this photo. I realized soon after that the front wheels were clamped upright to the floor. Duuuh....

If you have to ask the price ...
It will supposedly be on sale in the fall of 2018 in the USA as a 2019 model. Yamaha refuses to give even a hint of the retail price. They say they will not release the price until just before they go on sale here. I would guess it would have to run at least $16,000.00 and maybe a lot more.
That makes buying a new MP3 500 a more attractive option to me.

According to Cycle World, it's not a concept but a preview of a 2019 bike coming to the US sometime mid 2018. They give some specs, too.

847cc 3-cylinder
6 Speed standard transmission with electronic quick shifter
45 degree lean angle
15 in. front wheels
Traction control
Ride modes
ABS
Cruise control

I will be very interested to take that test ride, if they bother to get any of them at nearby dealers...

When is it coming to the UK ?

Does it count as a trike ?

where can I sign up ??

oh no its all over !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Importantly, Yamaha says that the bike's front track - the distance between the centrelines of the two front wheels - is 410mm. That means it won't fall into the same loophole as the Piaggio MP3 LT, which can be ridden on a car driving licence in some European countries, including the UK, as long as the rider is over 21. The law specifies that if the front track is less than 460mm (the MP3 LT's is 465mm), then the wheels are considered to be 'twinned' and legally considered as one wheel. That means, despite the clear evidence to the contrary, the law sees the NIKEN as having only two wheels... And riders will therefore need a full motorcycle licence to operate it.

Not completely sure, but I believe that within EU there is also a requirement for a foot brake. But I know what you mean Brasseye, would be great if Yamaha would create a car licence sportbike. Considering their Tricity FAIL, it would not surprise me though if they don't dare to do this...

Yes good point Yoss seems like its going to be another missed opportunity by Yammaha.

I happen to see a Youtube Video this morning on Motorcycle Updates for 2018. The 3 Wheel Yamaha is supposed to be in the US in April 2018.
I can't wait to check it out.

Just got an email from Yamaha with a link to their "information" page for the Niken:

https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/sport-touring/pages/lmw-leaning-multi-wheeler

Of course, the only info I could find on there are the YouTube videos...

The banner at the bottom of the email says "Available 2nd Half of 2018", so they're apparently targeting release sometime in the next 3 to 9 months.

There is a video from that article on youtube.

Upon reviewing the front track specs, it is 16.1" or 40.9cm wide, therefore requiring a motorcycle license in Europe

I really like that though and since I am working towards getting my motorcycle license, got something to look forward to.

Starting price around 16k is quite steep though but you do get a lot of bike.

<sarcasm> Gee, while 1/2 the country is preparing for (or already experiencing) winter sounds like a GREAT time of the year for a bike to drop!</sarcasm>

Yeah, I thought the same. Notice they say it'll be available for dealers in November and to contact your local dealer for their inventory. I don't think many dealers put in orders for scooters in October/November in most USA locations. I wonder if the real availability will be next spring?!

I also think that a November availability wasn't intentional. I wonder how many ppl got fired over this?
