I did a forum search but didn't come up with anything. Has anyone tried heated overgrips instead of installing a new heated grip? I like the idea of not having to remove the stock grips, and the fact that I can easily take them off when not needed. I use muffs, and they're OK for making sure my hands don't freeze entirely, but if I have to take my hand out for any reason (adjust my helmet, scratch my neck, whatever) I lose any & all heat in my hands and I can't warm back up. (To the point that I've had to pull over before and hold on to the heated grips on my husband's bike for five minutes before we can continue the ride. My ability to get cold and stay cold is ridiculous.) Since heated gloves aren't an option for me, I need something that will generate some warmth. Doesn't have to be super-hot, just enough to supplement the muffs.

I don't have winter-weight gloves, so if I do get these, it'll be along with the high/low controller since it appears they get pretty hot otherwise.

I used a pair of these on my MP3 for years. Biggest drawback is how big they make your grip. Be sure your hands are big enough to retain good control.

But, they work very well and can be removed when not needed. However, one side of mine failed after about 3 years and I had to buy another pair.

In my opinion, heated grips are better because you retain same size grips and they seem to last longer. They both heat hands nicely.

Okay to use on a 400 or 500. Charging system on a 250 won't keep up with heated grips.

Good to know! I'll be using them on my 400. My 250 is currently not being used, but by next winter my daughter should be riding, so I'll know not to get them for her. Thanks!

Someone gave me a pair of heated over-grips a few years ago, but as I had a good quality pair of insulated gloves, I couldn't tell if they were on or off until I removed the gloves - which kinda defeats the object.

I didn't like the extra thickness they added and fortunately, they didn't survive being removed and re-applied - so I didn't feel too guilty about binning them

I stand corrected

Spare amps on MP3 250 (for heated gear)?

Thought it was less than that. Still if you put heated items on a 250 install a voltmeter. As long as it is charging (13.6) your good.

An alternative is to get some 'hippo hands' that cover all your controls of your handlebar, to the point if you know the location of all your controls on your handlebar, it's doable. With these you don't need any gloves. You just stick your hands in the HHs and they stay nice and warm. It's like what the flyers used in WW II on B17s to keep their hands warm bombing Nazi targets. If you only ride 1 rig, then it's not hard to remember where all your controls are when you can't see them. Not only do they keep your hands warm but they keep them dry too if it's raining

Since I have multiple rigs to ride I had electric gloves for this. On my 400 MP3 I have a volt meter($45) installed with different colored lights that let's me know if the voltage is adequate or not. In reality, if you have electric anything you should have an on/off switch to turn off that accessory when you are not moving (idle) as then you don't have enough voltage to not drain your battery of 12 volts.

You could add a second battery on the MP3/250, that is what I do in the Winter.
I have an Adapter under the seat where I plug in my spare Battery when I have the need...

This will increase the Amps by enough where the Heated Clothing won't impact the bike this solution vs buying an expensive Lithium Battery.
When your running normal, it can keep both batteries charged...
But limit it to about 4 Amps...
(Heated Vest, or Heated Grips, but not everything.)

I have found Freeze-Out Gear to work very well.
