Modern Vespa

Well, scooter theft is not confined to large metropolitan areas. My awesome Matte Gray Sprint 150 with only 370 miles on the odometer was stolen from the parking lot of the Nevada Legislature. The good news is that the vigilant Carson City Sherriff’s Office recovered it within days. The bad news is the kid who stole it obviously could not start it so he trashed the ignition and the rest of my previously pristine Vespa. My insurance company classified it as a total loss.

The happy ending to the story is my wife and I decided to buy a scooter for each of us instead of sharing one Vespa. She is now the proud owner of a portofino green 2008 LXV 150 with 450 miles. We added new Michelin City Grips, a new battery and had a few minor dents and dings professionally repaired and painted. A Vespa mechanic has also cleaned out the carb (fuel tank was empty). I’ve got new fuel lines to install when needed.

My new to me ride is a red 2009 Aprilia Scarabeo 200 with 1075 miles on the odometer. The previous owner was maintenance obsessed so my only adds were new Michelin’s, a new battery and a brake line service.

I’m sorry I don’t post/contribute often to the board. I lurk and enjoy others’ postings. Just thought this story may be of interest.

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune... That sucks. Did the thieves just lift it up and haul it away? I'm always concerned thieves are going to tote away my GTS 300, despite its relative heft.

I'm glad to hear of the resolution (and recovered bike and a scooter each for your and your wife), but I'm a little disheartened to hear of the theft in lovely Carson City. My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon there (we stayed at the Pinion Plaza) and had a blast. I love Nevada.

Thankfully it all worked out in the end. The Legislative Police had great surveillance video of the young man plotting his theft of the scooter, but unfortunately trees blocked the camera’s view of how he removed the scooter from the parking lot.

The Piñon Plaza is now the Gold Dust West. My favorite restaurant for Mexican food is in the casino area. They’ve added a really nice RV property probably after your stay.

Carson City is still beautiful but we have been enveloped in smoke for almost the entire summer. God bless the unfortunate people in CA who are suffering the full effects of these horrible fires.[/quote]
