Another one that keeps cropping up - today it was in a bank's own literature:
PIN number. It's a PI number or a PIN.

Arrival documents always ask for passport numbers.
What happens when I omit the letters?

Depends on what base those numbers are in. DEADBEEF is a perfectly valid hexadecimal number.

What pisses ne off is people who start threads non scooter related about the environment or whatever just to create controversy even if they title it nsr. Thats one reason i seldom comment on here. Thus is a vespa scooter forum, no nsr political threads needed!

I'm not getting any political vibes off of an environmental disaster. Sure, it can go there, but so can anything.

If you don't want to see NSR topics, you don't need to open them. That ship has sailed.

True, but why do we need nsr topics at all? If you do not have anything scooter related then do not post.

Erm, it's tradition?

I think you'll find the majority of folks here actually enjoy NSR posts. Others, driven mad by the endless talking bollocks here, buy an NSM or MP3 scooter and hang out on the dark side of the forum to avoid most of the drivel.

Not suggesting that, but if it's that concerning....
I suppose my earlier comment on most people liking NSR is skewed a bit by the loss of those who found the variety of subjects unbearable. OTOH, there has to be a significant group who doesn't like them but stick around anyway.

FWIW, you're not the first one to bring up the subject, at least in my half-dozen years here. You can probably guess where it's gone.

Is ir really that hard to NOT read something? If it has NSR in subject don't freaken read it. This place has grown in to more than just a "Vespa" forum. However if you want Vespa stuff it's there. You know in the threads that don't have NSR in the subject. It's also you know... free. You can feel free to find another forum on the internet where people only talk about scooters or Vespas. Or hey... start your own!

Indeed.

Read what the forum owner has to say about this in the Wiki - he was less polite in the actual forums:

FAQ: Can we put all the NSR posts in their own section?

The fact that this place has survived the onslaught of FB and all the other social media sites where so many other BBS style forums have failed says a lot. Maybe not as active here as it used to be but there is still a community. If you choose not to be a part of this community because there are LABELED non scooter related topics... well don't let the door hit you on the way out. You can post Vespa/scooter stuff on the ADV Rider forum which is another one that has survived and it's doubtful you will get as much solid advice as you would get here.

This is a bit like a new employee suggesting that the job you've been doing for the past 20 years could be done better if you'd just listen to them.

70 years old, and still trying to change the world.

Good luck with that.

Personally I like the NSR topics. Heck, I even like it when a scooter topic goes off the rails. Why, you ask? Well thanks for asking. It's because I know the people. This isn't just a website about scooter knowledge, though there is plenty to be had. This is a gathering place of scooter people, many of whom have not only met but actually care about the others here-in.

If you want to be part of that, great. Welcome aboard. If you don't, that's fine, too. We'll do our general best to answer questions and get you on your way.

Have no stomach for non-trivial not-scooter-related stuff? All I can ask is why do you keep posting on a thread that is clearly NSR? That stands for Not Scooter Related by the way. If you didn't realize that I apologize if I seemed snarky. If you DID realize that, please understand that now, the snark is intended.

Iv'e seen this before and I get it with much of the stuff that I post.

If you don't like what I post it's best not to read it.

If the title doesn't interest me I don't bother.

Personally, I come here as much for entertainment and staying in touch with scooter folks as for scooter stuff.....as much as I live for scooters, there's only so much even I can handle.

There are probably a dozen ways my life has changed since MV and attributed to NSR threads. I've been shaving with a safety razor for 5 years just for one example. Never did buy that coffee press, but any day now. Probably watched a half dozen movies I never thought I'd enjoy thanks to MV. And reassuring that I'm not the only goofball with chickens in the back yard. If most people DON'T like talking about other-than-scooters, I expect NSR will become a rarity. Judging by the number of people that have shared non-scooter things, I don't see things changing.

Which reminds me of another point....there are lots of times I don't care about someone's scooter model that I don't own, or whitewall tire shopping and I somehow manage not to click on the topic. I'm good with it being there regardless.

Where does it end?

Quest
Would it be ironic to post a N/S/R related post stating that you didn't enjoy N/S/R posts ?

Or would it be scooter related because of it's disconnection from posts about scooters ?

pokey pokey pokey.

I think what you're failing to see is that to many people this is their social life and because many of us are connected by things not necessarily scooter related we still like to share ideas and questions.

We don't all live in that narrow passage of exclusively related topics.

We're more diverse than that.

Thank you. I'm here all week.

There's plenty of topics (and a few posters) that I just don't read. If it doesn't float my boat, I'll just pass. Kinda like eating a five cheese pizza, it ain't for me and my lactose intolerance (I don't eat any dairy most of the time), but I won't tell you that you shouldn't enjoy it.

I'm thankful for the peeps here and their scoot and non scoot advice. I've connected with others here over wiener dogs, sports, and the talk of being addicted to the awful food of White Castle.

71 yo and an MV member for 12 years.

I read what interests me. I appreciate a subject line that helps me decide.

I find some N/S/R subjects entertaining, some interesting, and some very real and engaging, especially when they are about MV members I have grown to have some affection for.

I don't see this so much as a forum about scooters as a forum for scooter riders. We are a varied and interesting bunch - a group I am happy to be a part of. I love that I have learned some very interesting N/S/R things here.

I also appreciate the guardrails manned by the moderators. There is some very interesting stuff (politics, religion, helmet laws, etc.) that would cause more trouble here than they are worth and are best discussed in forums that are intended for those discussions.

You pays your nickel and you takes your choice.

(And in this case, you don't even have to pay your nickel.)

Yea one of the best ways to make friends at a new job is to say, That's not how we did it at So-n-So company!" or "That's not how my instructor said to do it!"

I bet I could really upset some if I was to post a story about my Sportster with a sidecar or the two XS650 Yamaha's parked out in the garage! But then there is that guy who has been going on and on about that Russian sidecar so I guess I would not be alone in the penalty box!

I know I don't get upset going into a hardware store and see they have a display of flower pots when I'm there to buy some carriage bolts to fix my trailer. But I sure would be ticked off if they decided to put the carriage bolts on the shelves behind the flower pots so I would not know where to look for them.

Plenty of room in the box. All I can say about the Russian hack is 2 minutes for looking so good.

Ok, this is pissing me off...

I have an install at a factory office nearby (mini blinds in the supervisors office), and I have to take an online safety training course before I can do work at the facility as a contractor.

At least they're a good customer.
