In South Africa, your driver's licence must be renewed every 5 years. You are not retested, but your renewal is subject to an eye test. A poor work ethic among staff at re-licencing centers led to a long backlog and drivers being unable to renew before expiry. To improve service delivery, an on-line system of bookings was introduced. One can now make an appointment for your renewal process.

I went on-line and got an appointment 20 days hence. The guidelines suggest being at the venue at least 30 minutes before your appointment so I arrive at the venue at 10:15 for my 10:50 appointment. I was met by a group of people standing and sitting about. At the security gate to the venue is a small notice:

"Please be advised that this office will only open at 12:00 due to union meetings"

So much for planning...
So much for appointments...
So much for the politician's mantra of "people first"...

They did start at 12. Instead of their proposed "form a new queue" at the gate, I proposed they keep to the original appointments list as the order of clearing the backlog. Loud support from the waiting public. Batches of clients were allowed through security and it proceeded in an orderly fashion. Thanks
to orderly process and the fact that half the persons with appointments had gone home in disgust, I was out of there by 1:30.

IN the last week we've had a tornado hit locally, hail/rain and snow. While also having hit nearly 100 degrees. It's just the radical shift in temperature.
It's called weather.

I’m just surprised it’s raining in the UK. I thought it was always sunny and a comfy temperature.

We’ve had a few hot fall days here which I admit I don’t like. It’s that gross moist heat. Hell even the word “moist” I don’t care for much.

Wasn't complaining. Just stating.

I pretty much missed all the rain in the US over the past two weeks

Missed two big storms by a few miles.

My wife is as well. I know what happens next after she watches the show, a DEEP clean of the house and a purge of junk.

Why would a dealer stock and gas cap??

And why would an Aprilia dealer know anything about a Piaggio BV?
I was a parts guy, I knew the brands WE Sold.

thanks. saw that. LA is LAX, not NoLA. For the first time ever, my local Aprilia/Vespa dealer is actually quoting me a part at less than retail, except they're ordering it and I won't have a gas cap for 2 weeks. Sorry California air for being so cheap.

Two weeks to get a gas cap!??

I broke the mirro on my wife's GTV300 on a Sunday and noon on Friday I had it in the mail from ScooterParts.com. Assuming a gas cap is more of a common part I can not understand it taking any where two weeks to get a replacement.

I woud not want to ride with no cap on as a tip over or even a bump in the road could cause fuel to slosh out and cause a possible fire.

Well I tried all day yesturday to post this but as the forum was down I was not able to do that!

Wife had a 8:00 am doctor's appointment this was Monday morning so it would have been the very first appointment of the week. Seems like it would be a no brainer that we would be in and out and off to get some breakfast in short order!

Well it only took 40 minutes to get to see the doc! And then the actual time the doc spent with her was all of three minutes! Why the blankity blank blank should the first appointment be 40 minutes late???

I can well understand if a late afternoon appointment is running late as doctor could have run over the normal time with a few patients during the day, but the very first one? If due to some unforseen reason the doctor was going to be late getting to the office why could he not be bothered to call and tell the receptionist know so they could inform the patients?

On the other hand, and that is a little bit of a pun as she is a hand doctor, I had an appointment last Thursday with my doctor I made just early that week for 2:00 pm.

We got there about 20 minutes early for the appointment as we were not sure about possible construction hold ups along the way. That doctor actually was in the exam checking out my hand at least 5 minutes before the actual appointment time!

As the problem I had made the appointment about had more or less went away the day before that appointment there was not much she could do. But she said if it happens again call for an appointment and don't hesitate to cancel if the problem goes away again!

Totally depends on the Dr though I feel your pain as I have had similar experiences. I'm lucky that with my specialist I see weekly for injections they are incredible about getting me in and out in usually about 15 minutes. They know I can't afford to sit around a waiting room so book me in with the early morning appointments and when I get there I am always next. I do try and show up right on time but my schedule can be a bit hectic and they know that.

Gas cap is much less common than a mirror. If they don;t have it in stock it comes from Italy so it takes a few weeks.

Don't think I ever ordered a gas cap when I was working the parts department at the motorcycle dealer.

Yup and in the summer anything coming from Italy can take a LONG time. I think we are at least past that part of year and they should all be back from the summer shutdown. My understanding is that is still common in Italy? I have to admit as a North American that comes as a shock especially someone living in Toronto which is basically the Canadian version of Manhattan when it comes to work ethic. Hell most places only close for a few days between Christmas and New Years. I tried to shut my company down and do over that period but still have to have staff on remote support as we have clients that stay open. Surprise... law firms.... we get emails from them at all sorts of weird hours and weekends.

I had to call the fire Marshall yesterday. They have been trying to fix a main exit door for a year. The release arm keeps catching and you have to slam your hands against the door to get it to open some times. Well yesterday I had to use my foot.
So after that went to my desk and emailed the fire marshal, 2 hours later there was an inspector on site and wrote them a citation.
God that made me feel good.
They suspect it was me but can't prove it

That what I was thinking too.

Oh and the door got fixed today and they are talking about ordering a replacement. They are not cheap, they have a 1/4" steel plate in the middle to prevent forced entry and are bullet proof.

Well if you were to go to the link mpfrank posted Scooterwest shows they have 9 in stock. So at least some dealers do stock them! Does sort of suck that shipping will be close to the cost of the cap to NY but I would not risk riding with no cap for the little bit that would add to the cost!

lol i'm too cheap to give up on a deal; am waiting, and in the meantime, trying not to crash (which is... all the time anyway?)

so... I had a man neck pimple yesterday right where the helmet strap was. Thought the strap was broken or something and poking me. nope, it was a neck pimple. so gross and pissed me off it was hurting the entire commute.

Sorry to hear that . I took an advanced riding techniques course a few years ago and one of the guys was recovering from a stroke. Had a long talk with him during lunch break and he explained to me what recovering was like and it wasn't easy. Took him a long time to get his license back as well after the stroke. Apparently they have to take it away here after one, not sure if that is the case everywhere. Wanting to ride again was one of his biggest motivations.

So the hire ups have decided that DCO Techs (Data Center Operations Techs) staff does not need to be onsite at night or on weekends. They have decided to reduce staff and make us Mon-Fri and set up an oncall. Well They are getting an ear full, so 40 hours weeks and on call nights and weekends. We all say FUCK YOU QTS, NO!!! We might all be looking for jobs soon because we aren't going to let them walk all over us. And Ashburn Va is the WORLD Data Center Capital. There are over 75 data centers right now and more going up every day.

Had a delivery for some protective padding today. The padding is for my new electric unicycle. So why am I pissed off? The package was delivered by a lady who lives 2 roads away and she found it in her garden. I'm guessing Royal Mail weren't living up to their high standards that day.
