Christmas music
It's only the day after Thanksgiving, FFS.

Walking down the hallway in my office this morning, radio's on, and suddenly realized the programming has changed. I'M NOT READY YET!!

Christmas is just fine, but do we really need and entire month of it?

Not an anger issue, but a sad one.

A month ago we had to put down Ellen, our spunky dachshund-terrier cross when she went into continuous seizure.
Yesterday we had to put down Kodi, our Golden Retriever-Collie cross and the most gentlemanly canine I have ever known.
Kodi was off his food and just lying around our living spaces a lot more than normal. I thought he was pining for his very good friend and left him to mourn. Then we noticed that under his beautiful long coat he was getting very thin over the ribs and hips, with his belly getting bloated and hard.

From an ultrasound, the vet diagnosed liver cancer and we had little choice on the matter.

It is strange how little quirks are what we remember most.
I will miss Kodi's soft little barks while lying on the carpet and dreaming.
Be at peace, Kodi boy...

I second that and my condolences. I know all too well how hard it can be. Still the joy and love they gave to us is something we will always have and makes it all worth it.

Fudmucker, I know what you mean we have lost too many over the years. I could just about write a book on all the things I miss about them.

Last one was a very active Greyhound took her out to go potty in the pen and she did her normal sprint across the area and did a quick turn and let out the worst yelp ever. Long story short we learned she had bone cancer and broke her leg and there was nothing to be done as it had progressed too far.

I hated it when I worked at a CD/music store (Wherehouse Music), back in 2002-2003. We were required by corporate to have at least one Christmas music CD in the changer. Luckily, it was on shuffle, so if there were no customers in the store, I'd skip the track when a Christmas song came on.

At my current job, since it's only me in the shop, I stream 80s music (either 80s on 8 or 1st Wave from SiriusXM).

As for what's pissing me off today, it's currently 34°F, with a wind chill of 25°F. Weather like this is why I left Wisconsin.

Wow-you can barely miss Wisconsin! Just in case, though, it was 27 degrees this morning with flurries...and a cold-ass (literally) north wind.

Too cold to be pissed off.

Well both you should come to balmy Central New York! Other than being a little on the "moist" side it's 44ºF at a little before 2:00 PM!

IT at work updated the Oracle web app that we use for payroll/time off/etc., and it no longer worked properly for me. After 4 days, I finally got around to placing a service request about it.

This afternoon, the tech contacted me via Skype for Business chat, and asked me to share the screen with them. They then went into Chrome's settings and cleared the browser cache, which fixed the issue.

Except now I have to re-login to every website that used to auto login.

Riding to the pharmacy last week, a car takes a left turn on red in front of me on my lx50. Head on collision. Plate and screws on my right hip and knee all mangled up. Bed rest for three months.

I might have missed it but did the other guy stop, get charged and have good insurance?

I had a guy T-bone me in my own driveway back in 2000. I was lucky as I had a sidecar on my XS650 so the only thing that hit me or I hit was the ground. Separated should put me out of work for six months and it still bothers me a bit today. I was at least lucky guy was insured so my medical bills and lost wages were covered with a little for P+S.

Sorry to hear about the Scoot Max . Maybe one day in the very distant future you 2 will be reunited and it will be twisties and open road all the time.

Yes, please give us the details. New scoots/bikes and accidents all require a thread around here by the regs.

Get some rest and heal up.

HBO Max will be streaming Warner Bros movies on it's service the SAME day as the theatrical release. This is they are saying in response to the pandemic. I think it is is great they are doing this BUT only in the U.S. I can 100% guarantee you that high quality torrent copies will be available the next day on many sites. I don't mind paying for a streaming service. hell I belong to all of them. However if you geo block something I will get it and not feel the least bit guilty.

Amazing it took them this long. The resistance to doing this has been way more than expected and I've been mystified by how the studios had continually been postponing releases waiting for theaters to return instead of opting to release them streaming. I did not expect them to be free part of an existing streaming service though. I imagine HBO will pay a pretty penny for these movies.

Yes the theater industry is going down the tube, but I do not think it is the end of theaters as people like me go to the theaters religiously, not because I don't already have equal viewing experiences with 4k TV and Atmos audio at home, but because there is a critical element of the experience I prefer from going to the theater.

I was a diamond rewards member of Regal Rewards club for over a decade. Then I had moviepass before anyone else heard of moviepass, right up until they screwed users out of ability to use the service they paid for. Then I switched to AMC movie subscription when an AMC finally opened up near me. Then I switched to Regal's subscription when they started one cause I prefer the older crappier theater chain cause it was way bigger theaters and a 90's style theater building compared to the tinier trendier AMC theaters. Paid for my year long regal subscription last december and only got 2 months usage out of it before the pandemic. Haven't been able to go use the subscription I paid for since then. If Regal doesn't go under by the end of this, I'm curious if they are going to honor my unused 8 months of subscription prepaid.

My point is, theater chains can bitch and moan about being cut out of streaming, but it is only good for the industry as its moronic to refuse to adapt to modern technology and culture where there are a laundry list of viewing options compared to 1920 when theaters were the ONLY option. This means more people will be watching movies as they will catch the viewers that refuse to go to the theater like many of my friends who hate the theater. And they will still get the theater addicts like me who need that event experience of going to the movies and not being able to be distracted while you watch the movie for 2 hrs. More viewers overall == more dollars overall. I also don't buy this false narrative that has existed since the late 90s in the movie industry where they were legitimately suffering revenue hits as a result of torrents. That period lasted very shortly, and they continue to use that as an excuse to claim dwindling revenue, when their ticket prices have doubled, and viewership has risen thanks to the industry move towards only releasing massive big budget box office comic book films, and MANY of them each year. Marvel saved the theater industry and they still cry wolf over revenue shortfalls which weren't there (until the pandemic). And since the comic book movie period really took off, online streaming services has converted a majority of torrent downloaders into paid streamers who won't put the effort into downloading torrents when its easier and more convenient to pay pennies for the legitimate streams. This means most people don't even know what torrents are or how to access them anymore, when there was an unnatural surplus of non technical computer users who stumbled into torrents in the early 2000's pre-Netflix out of need for easy access to these movies when streaming didn't exist.

As you can see.. I'm way into these topics! Both the movie/theater/streaming industry evolutions over time and the history of digital piracy. I've always wanted to write a book about the evolution of digital piracy of movies and music as I was at the right age to participate as an end user, with the occasional ripping for personal uses, in all of the major developments in digital piracy over the years from usenet through the user friendly napster style apps, back to torrents and all the various sites that have shuttered over the years!

My biggest gripe with these industries portrayal of digital piracy is that it has never really been big enough to damage their bottom line, except for maybe a good 5-10 years in the early to late 2000's. People can't be bothered with it anymore, and even those like me who used it extensively back in the day and maybe still use it occasionally, are only using it as a secondary or tertiary copy to access in addition to the paid copies available on countless services that we actively pay for. Mine is limited to those obscure 80's and 90's movies that fell through the cracks and are no longer in print for purchase or are too obscure to be added to a streaming collection.
