I'm on a vacation road trip. I will be driving about 2000 miles during the next 9 days. I have about 100 CDs downloaded onto the SD card in my phone to listen to but unbeknownst to me, the powers that be disabled all access to my SD card and all the music on it when I was forced to update recently.

I didn't find this out until I was 600 miles from home and now I have nothing to listen to for more than a week. The antenna is broken on my car so I can't listen to the radio either.

Thanks.

Time to download Spotify.

Stream for the whole week and you won't use a Gig of Data.

Even free Spotify is better than silence.

Free spotify doesn't allow you to skip too many songs in a set, or to order them while mobile. But I'm too cheap to pay for those features (and thus, I have to listen to the commercials).

Time for an mp3 player. I have just under 1000 CDs loaded into the SD card in my Rockbox-ed player, and a shuffled playlist of all of it.

Of course your car system needs an AUX input.

I signed up and downloaded about 20 albums, almost all of which I already have.

I'm still getting used to it but I, at least have something to listen to for the rest of the week.

I'm thinking that I might be able to transfer the SD card to my old phone and use that for the car.

Spotify gives you a one month trial period of premium for free but I doubt I will keep the premium after that. I don't see myself buying much music that I don't already have. If the old phone doesn't work I'll probably go with an MP3 player.

It's funny that some of you guys are mentioning an MP3 player... I would think with streaming and all that MP3 players are a bit historic at this point, but my daughter pointed out to me that if you live in an area where cell service is spotty at best, then you need an offline source for music. So she drives with an old iPod in her car, since she has service only when in town, but not between towns.

I'm not impressed with Spotify. If you don't have premium you can only listen by shuffeling. I like to hear an album straight through.

As I have said I already have all the music that I need. MP3s are cheap to buy and free to operate.

Spotify will get me through my vacation but I'm canceling as soon as I get home.

There has to be an insensitive to buy the premium or they would be out of business.
Try iheart radio you can listen to whole albums depending on the artist.

I understand that but I'm not going to pay $10 a month for music that I already bought and paid for. Sometimes twice.

I'm still resisting the future as well, tho gotta admit that whenever I message friends who have apple-music, or whatever the hell it's called, and I say "oooh, I gotta burn you this new Jason Isbell album!" they always write back "just downloaded it."

Or whenever I'm jamming with a bud and we bring up some old, obscure band or song or album he whips out his phone and instantly pulls it up. Old jazz, funk we haven't heard since jr. high, punk tapes long since stolen...imagine having ALL of it.

It’s gonna snow here again tomorrow in south central Pa.

But it did get to 40F today with calm winds, so I went for a ride.

I commiserate with you lived in Iowa City and the Spring never seem to arrive. although I am expecting to ride again once it is dry. Sometime in March I hope! I don't have a car and use my scooters for fun, go to the doctor, and pharmacy and stuff like that.

I can ride a few blocks when dry and cold to get sundries. Sometimes it takes several trips but I don't' mind that

The cap that holds the nozzle on my 2 1/2 Gal. gas can gave up. I go to 3 different stores and they all have new anti spill nozzle/caps. I know I'm old and hate change but the problem is that none have the same thread and I'm going to have to buy a whole new can when there's nothing wrong with the one I have(except the nozzle).

It just doesn't get more fun than that, does it? Do you have to fill it out? Seems a bit weird . What happens if you don't? Seems to me that sort of decision should be made by you and not something they make you fill out.

It's fucked up man and your are probably pissing them off by sticking around so long and refusing to go . You know our thoughts are with you . and no, that isn't just lip service . We miss you around here.

Methinks that, in the event the CYA form is not filled out, should Bitza begin his travel to the ethers, he'll be dragged back into this cold world where, had he filled out that CYA form, he would have clearly stated his readiness to depart it.

Like I said, shit.

Yup, but Win 10 seems to love recommending it. When you see a lot of typos from me and weird spacing it's usually because I'm on my Surface Pro in tablet mode. OK, fine sometimes I'm drunk but usually the Surface and Edge is the culprit. Combine the two and well....

That is funny, because Microsoft is dropping the Edge Browser and has relented that others do it much better than they can

The only reason I use Edge here is every so often someone posts a link to a video or such and Google Chrome doesn't show it! Might just go back to Chrome and if I see something I want to view then fire up Edge for just that.

Edge integrates better in some ways. If I reply to a post here it will bring up the keyboard and integrate with the site. With Chrome I have to manually bring it up and there is no integration.

WEB-Tech - you are telling a half truth. MSFT is dropping Edge sort of but not abandoning a light weight integrated browser for the OS. It will be replaced with Chromium version of Edge. They may even call it Edge, it's still just a lot of rumours. You may be WEB-Tech but yeah I do OK in the same industry as you as well.

Cabin air filters.

I took one of my Honda cars to the dealer for an airbag recall. They did the usual "free" inspection -- their excuse to find something expensive to fix. All good, except the cabin air filter FAILED -- in RED text. They would replace it for only $60.

Same thing when I take a car to the local auto shop for oil changes, etc. They always find a dirty air filter. It's always about $45 to replace. They even offer to "clean the system" or something like that for only $100 extra.

The air filters cost about ten bucks each. It takes all of two minutes to change them.

I recently retired from a medical school/hospital. The reason for this DNR form was demonstrated quite clearly right before I retired. A 90 year old woman arrived via ambulance, she coded, her heart stopped, and the residents had to resuscitate her. This woman had a very advanced cancer and the related damage to various organs. To put it bluntly she was on borrowed time. You could hear her ribs cracking through their effects to save her. Someone finally called it. Afterwards the residents all had guilty looks on their faces and said they wished they didn’t have to do that. The DNR form can be stipulated not to perform heroic means to prolong your life. Which is explained as if you have terminal disease in an advanced state you can opt out of being saved. It doesn’t mean that if you choked on a piece of food they would not save you.
