Does anyone know the latest replacement battery for a 2006 Vespa Piaggio 250cc GTS? I went to the Yuasa website and it appears the battery, (YB10L-BP) has been discontinued. Would appreciate any comments.

Best,

PS Easy Rider.

The reason that you can't find it on the Yuasa site is that it is a special battery. The P is for Piaggio. Some say that a battery for a new Harley Sportster will fit (Yuasa YTX14L-BS) with the later model battery tray (PN 639853) but I have not confirmed this, and I believe this battery is too wide (6" instead of 5 1/2"). It might work.

From your number, I assume that your positive terminal is toward the front of the scooter. Don't get one with the positive terminal to the rear. Your Vespa dealer should have the new sealed replacement.

Cheers and good luck,
Bob

Make it a gel battery.

Any motorcycle dealer that uses Parts Unlimited can get one in for you, if you up grade to a ytx12 or ytx14 you will need to change the battery tray and change your battery leads as described above and the 12 and 14 are way more expensive, stick with the 10, and I recommend a battery tender (jr), they are inexpensive and will double the life of your battery.

GTS Battery - Positive Terminal to Front
Just bought and installed a gel battery to replace my old Yuasa YB10L-BP - pictured below (front of scooter to the left).

Located the gel battery with terminals in same configuration as YB10L here - $54

That's not a GEL battery: It's an Absorbed Glass Mat battery (AGM) which is a whole lot better than a Gel. Gel batteries are notorious for failing and just a little overcharge will also kill them. BMW found this out the hard way and wound up having to replace a lot of them that were originally supplied with their motorcycles. The AGM type is very robust and was the best choice. Glad you found one and solved your problem.

Thanks for pointing out the difference!

Incredibly nice company on the phone. Seems there were some server problems this weekend but a phone call got it done! They ship priority mail which means 2-3 day delivery even though MN is a fair piece from CA. I like the idea of OEM sized but getting an AGM. Wiring is VERY close and any changes in position or size will create more of an adventure than I'm in the mood for. Cold cranking amps are 180 and were adequate even during the winter startups. Living in the temperature extremes of MN and NV I've not had extended service out of any battery at any price, so I'vr opted to save some $$. Dealer also advised not using a charger with an output over 1 Amp. I'm good with my Battery Tender Jr.

Lucky me, of the three possibilities for 2007 I got the lead acid Yuasa YB10L-B!

Looks like you need a terminal tool or some of those felt circles for your car battery.

Battery arrived in 3 days from CA to MN. It is sizing exactly as the OEM flooded. The attachment points have top and side options and it fit perfectly. Any change in size would have meant wiring problems. If anyone has the OEM flooded battery this is a very smooth replacement. Will post in 2011 and report on it's performance....Inshallah!

No sweat. They don't carry such inexpensive items.

How much was shipping then?

Glad that the swap was so easy for you.

Found the invoice...OUCH! $14!!
But I'd do it again just for the ease of the install. This winter I'll pull the battery. Before sub zero temps!

Resurrecting
It looks like my 3-yr old one is about to give up the ghost. So, which one will fit my 2007 GTS? I don't know what model battery I have, but this is what it looks like (including the Battery Tender Jr. wiring):

GTS Battery - Positive Terminal to Front
i brought home and installed a battery with the positive terminal to the back, (Thanks parts counter guy) i got no power and upon looking closely, discovered that terminals were reversed from the battery i took out. I exchanged my new battery for one with the correct terminal orientation but still getting no lights or start. Have I damaged something by installing the first battery wrong???
BTW, I checked all the fuses and the kill switch, and yes I know you must pull the handbrake to start.

Would appreciate any advise.
