You didn't read what actually happened. The monthly stipend turned into "paid in full". Good for Bill.

Save
Well spotted Dooglas.

It's a strange feeling though after being pretty pissed off consistently for the last couple of months or so.

The first thing I did was to confine the majority of it to a savings account so I can take some time to decide how to what the best course of action is which means no more buying motorcycles.

If I can't or more importantly I choose not to work I'm going to have to make this at least 10 years so isolating it then claiming a wage from it looks like the best idea.

Believe me there have been no fists punched in the air over this , just an odd feeling of why didn't you do that in the first place ?

Thank you all for your kind words. It means a lot to me.

Solvent. Do you mind if i use that ? That's an excellent word.

You know that thing that we all do when we relate the circumstances that we find ourselves in to gauge the reaction from others ?

It kind of gives us an indication as to if we are either reacting correctly or being somewhat precious ?

Well only one friend who heard the story thought that being " metered" back £1000 a month was a reasonable thing to do.

The rest responded mostly with "You're shitting me !" or something similar.

Time to breathe.

Hi Birreh!

BTW thanks for the links.

This whole thing came as an enormous shock to me. One thing I can say and that is I cannot blame you for quitting your job. When I was on chemotherapy my doctor told me no work during treatment. Each case is different. How much and how often are you getting the treatment?

I am really sorry to hear about your parents. It sounds like you and I both need a hug, a big one!

As to your retirement plans all I can say is if you have enough to see you through comfortably until 65 years old I would do it. I did it earlier than 65 and I don't regret it. Yeah you may have to adjust your lavish lifestyle a bit. So stop buying bikes for a while.

Thank you Max. That's a very kind thing to say.

The treatment is a daily dose of a drug called Pontinib and two visits to two different Hospitals twice a month for blood tests.

This is the 4th drug they have tried as the others have kept it in check but not reduced the conditions effects.

Compared what you've been through I regard this is a minor annoyance so please keep us all updated as to your progress.

All of us were very worried as you can probably gauge.

Even though my last job was working for Porsche I had too much on my plate to carry on working so I thought it best to leave.

I have no regrets about that.

Now I know just how much I have to live on I can plan out the next 10 years and yes the spending has to stop.

Exit
Something strange has happened in my Noggin.

Because of my Sister seeing the light at least 50% of my concerns have been resolved and so my days are feeling kind of empty.

I still don't have a memory to speak of which will sadly remain my Achilles Heel but up till 6 days ago much of my day was consumed with dwelling on my financial uncertainty and now that's resolved I only have my health to focus on.

This has opened up some almighty gaps in my day which is forcing me to look for things to occupy myself.

Before because of the anxiety ( fueled by the drug ) I couldn't focus on anything for very long but now it's receding I'm feeling a lot more positive about what's next.

Lets hope it continues.

There's always that I guess.

It's an interesting place to be though seeing the world carry on without you.

I don't mean that in a hard done by sense but I feel like an observer now rather than an integrator.

Going for a walk in the morning through the rush hour traffic is really strange as all I see is miserable faces while knowing at the same time I used to one of them.

Whatever I choose to do for the next 10 years I'm not going rush into deciding it.

I had a random thought the other day.

What if when you die it's not actually St Peter that greets you at the Gates of Heaven but a Senior Executive of either Google, Amazon or Apple ( as they are the new Gods ) and they are scrolling through your search history while trying to decide if you've been a good or bad boy.

Your destination depends on how many likes or dislikes you've received on social media.

Just me then ?

It's always your choice and everyone is different. I quit working at 60 and have to admit that working was really interfering with my life. I was somewhat influenced by my Father and my job. My Father retired healthy at 70, he loved his Job. He was dead in two years, out of the blue pancreatic cancer, it happens. I worked in the ER for 20 years, plus was often on the Code Team. I have easily been involved with 400 deaths, close enough to see the pupils blow. I never heard one person say, gosh if only I worked more. Some people love to work, there is nothing wrong with that, if it makes you happy. All I know is I got nothing to do all day and I still don't get it all done.

Actually "curmudgeon" describes many of us on MV, but I think jimc claimed the title first.
