Let's see...
- Bike? No-brainer there:
fabulous. Love mine.
- Top Case: Not a bad idea, and if you get one now, (1) you can easily get one that matches, and (2) you can always remove it when you don't need or want it on the bike. That being said, I chose a seat bag that goes on and off fairly easily, and has both a hand and shoulder strap for easy carry off the bike.
- Windscreen: Recommended. I use the smallest Vespa makes (Euro-spec Flyscreen).
- Crashbars: I went minimalist with Cuppini bars - reasonable protection combined with non-obtrusive style for me.
- What to Wear: I'm now what you might call a Most of The Gear, Most of The Time rider: for
really short hops (<1mi) in
really hot weather, you'll catch me in shorts and a tee; longer than that, it's jeans, longer sleeves and a mesh riding jacket (cdwise is right-on about this, corroborated by me this past summer: a mesh jacket actually feels better than a tee, more often than not, not to mention one hell of a better skin/bone-saver in a crash). Regarding helmets, any helmet beats none (not to mention being a legal requirement where you are [
EDIT: based on ScootOhio's post, the mandatory part likely isn't true]), but my choice is a damned good full-face with serious ventilation. Gloves? Yes...I recommend perforated leather with strategic armor at the knuckles and reinforcement at the palms, for starters. For footwear, there are lots of options, but I recommend something that protects you from the ankles down - there are even Chuck Taylor clones with armor where you need it, and water-resistant as well.
There's
always other stuff you can do (and may want to do!) with the GTS, but remember that it's a sweet ride just as it is, and all the above stuff merely enhances the experience here and there. Enjoy the bike the second you get it, and all the other stuff will come together as it should. (Except the riding gear...get that stuff ASAP.)
